A method comprising inputting a field development plan into a human interface, transferring the field development plan to an information handling system, transferring on or more electronic inputs into the information handling system, running a software program on the information handling system that integrates the electronic inputs with the field development plan to produce an output, sending the output to one or more pieces of equipment, operating the one or more pieces of equipment based at least in part on the output, measuring the operation of the one or more pieces of equipment with one or more sensors, sending the measurements from the one or more sensors back to the information handling system, running the software program with the measurements, updating the output based at least in part on the measurements and the field development plan, and sending an updated output to the one or more pieces of equipment.

Field development optimization through direct rig equipment control

In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system, as well as a method and article of manufacture, may operate to determine a value of strain, such as an equivalent plastic strain, in a perforated portion of a well by applying a set of draw-down pressures to the surface of at least one perforation tunnel in the perforated portion. The perforated portion, in turn, is modeled using stress components provided by a global field model that includes the location of the well, to set boundary conditions at the surface of the well. A well drilling process and a tunnel perforating process are modeled with element removal and pressure addition for the perforated portion. Additional activity may include operating a controlled device based on the value of strain that is determined. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Draw-down pressure apparatus, systems, and methods

System and methods for optimizing multistage hydraulic fracturing design based on three-dimensional (3D) continuum damage mechanics are provided. A 3D global model of a field of hydrocarbon reservoirs is generated. A finite element analysis of the 3D global model is performed to calculate values of one or more mechanical variables for the field. A smaller-scale 3D sub-model of a selected portion of the field is generated from the 3D global model based on the calculated values of the mechanical variables. The hydraulic fracturing effects of fluid injection stimulation within the targeted reservoir formation are simulated by applying one or more numerical damage models to the sub-model. Optimal design parameters for multistage hydraulic fracturing of the targeted formation with a plurality of horizontal wells are determined based on numerical results of the simulation.

Well pressure control is integrated in real time with geomechanics determinations made during drilling. A well drilling method includes updating determinations of properties of a formation surrounding a wellbore in real time as the wellbore is being drilled; and controlling wellbore pressure in real time as the wellbore is being drilled, in response to the updated determinations of the formation properties. Another well drilling method includes obtaining sensor measurements in a well drilling system in real time as a wellbore is being drilled; transmitting the sensor measurements to a control system in real time; the control system determining in real time properties of a formation surrounding the wellbore based on the sensor measurements, and the control system transmitting in real time a pressure setpoint to a controller; and the controller controlling operation of at least one flow control device, thereby influencing a well pressure toward the pressure setpoint.
