Climate control systems and methods of operating them are provided that circulate a working fluid including a high glide refrigerant blend having first and second refrigerants with a difference in boiling points ≥about 25° F. at atmospheric pressure. The system includes a gas-liquid separation vessel that generates a vapor stream and a liquid stream. A compressor receives the vapor stream and generates a pressurized vapor stream. A liquid pump receives the liquid stream and generates a pressurized liquid stream. A condenser is disposed downstream of the compressor and liquid pump and receives and cools the pressurized mixed vapor and liquid stream. An evaporator receives and at least partially vaporizes the multiphase working fluid and directs it to the gas-liquid separating vessel. An expansion device between the condenser and the evaporator processes the multiphase working fluid stream. Lastly, a fluid conduit for circulating the working fluid through the components is provided.

Climate control systems for use with high glide working fluids and methods for operation thereof

Disclosed are working fluid compositions for heat transfer apparatuses, such as refrigeration systems, that include a refrigerant and an ester based lubricant. The working fluid may comprise &#x2266;50% by weight of the ester based lubricant composition and &#x2267;50% by weight of one or more refrigerant compounds. The ester based lubricant comprises an additive selected from the group consisting of: diaryl sulfides, arylalkyl sulfides, dialkyl sulfides, diaryl disulfides, arylalkyl disulfides, dialkyl disulfides, diaryl polysulfides, arylalkyl polysulfides, dialkyl polysulfides, dithiocarbamates, derivatives of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, derivatives of 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, and combinations thereof. The refrigerants may be C-Chydrocarbons, trichlorofluoromethane (CFC-11), dichlorodifluoromethane (CFC-12), saturated hydrofluorocarbons, difluoromethane (HFC-32), 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134), difluoroethane (HFC-152a), fluoroethane (HFC-161), R410A (a near-azeotropic mixture of difluoromethane (HFC-32) and pentafluoroethane (HFC-125)), 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-heptafluoropropane (HFC-227ea), 1,1,1,2,3,3-hexafluoropropane (HFC-236ea), 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropane (HFC-236fa), 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (HFC-245fa), 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane (HFC-365mfc), hydrofluoroolefins, dimethyl ether, carbon dioxide, bis(trifluoromethyl)sulfide, and trifluoroiodomethane and combinations thereof.

Refrigeration compressor lubricant

The disclosed lubricant compositions comprise a mixture of from about 1-99% by weight of the mixture of one or more ester compounds and from about 1-99% by weight of the mixture one or more second ester compounds wherein R, R, R, R, R, R, R, and Rare each H or methyl; a+x, b+y. and c+z are integers of 1 to about 20, and m+n is an integer of 1 to about 10; and R, R, R, Rand Rare straight-chain and branched, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylaryl, arylalkyl, alkylcycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, arylcycloalkyl, cycloalkylaryl, alkylcycloalkylaryl, alkylarylcycloalkyl, arylcycloalkylalkyl, arylalkylcycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkylaryl, or cycloalkylarylalkyl groups having 1 to about 17 carbons. The lubricant composition may be combined with a refrigerant to form a refrigerant-lubricant composition that may be used as a working fluid in a heat transfer apparatus.
