A video storage environment for a networked multimedia system comprising a plurality of workstations, each with audio and video reproduction and capture capabilities. The video storage environmental comprises one or more storage servers. In one embodiment, each video storage server comprises at least one storage cell. Each storage cell internally comprises at least one storage disk, at least one converter, and at least one storage disk, at least one converter, and at least one storage cell manager. The invention provides for various methods of resource allocation under various conditions and policies where there are pluralities of like entities. The invention also provides for transfers of video files among storage disks anywhere in the storage environment, and provides for the same video file to be used simultaneously by multiple users and types of applications. The approach can be extended to included multimedia files comprising any of graphics animations, dynamic annotations, text, and other media accompanying the stored video.

Networked video multimedia storage server environment

An aquatic propulsion device includes an elongate member, a forearm support secured to the elongate member, a grip secured to the elongate member, and a paddle secured to the grip. The grip is positioned such that a person may place their forearm in the forearm support and reach and hold onto the grip. While wearing the aquatic propulsion device, the person may perform power and/or return strokes using their forearm and hand, such that the forearm support, the elongate member, and the paddle move in tandem with the forearm and hand. The aquatic propulsion device is characterized by a center of water displacement that extends beyond the hand, away from the forearm.

Aquatic propulsion device

An aquatic propulsion device includes an elongate member secured to a forearm support and a paddle. The paddle and elongate member include a grip positioned such that a person may place their forearm in the forearm support and reach and hold onto the grip. While wearing the aquatic propulsion device, the person may perform power and/or return strokes using their forearm and hand, such that the forearm support, the elongate member, and the paddle move in tandem with the forearm and hand. The aquatic propulsion device is characterized by a center of water displacement that extends beyond the hand, away from the forearm. Additionally, a leading edge of the paddle is substantially inline with the hand and forearm.

According to one aspect of the invention an aquatic propulsion device is provided comprising a harness to be worn on the body of a person, at least a first elongate member, and at least a first paddle. The first elongate member has first and second opposed ends and a first grip. The first end is pivotally securable to the harness. The first paddle is secured to the second end of the first elongate member. The first grip is positioned so that a person, when wearing the harness, can reach and hold onto the grip with a first hand and move the first grip so that the first elongate member and the first paddle pivot relative to the harness.

A random access audio/video processor having multiple outputs is disclosed. The processor includes a main control unit with analog video and audio back panels, an analog input/output board, audio and video processing boards, video effects board, synchronization board, and a system board (containing the main CPU). The video processing board includes a compressor for compressing input video signals, and triple transfer buffers for intermediate storage of digital video path. The video processing board further includes decompression circuits coupled to each of two triple transfer buffers for decompressing compressed stored video, and providing the decompressed video channels to an effects board for the addition of special effects. The audio processing board contains processors for compression, decompression, and effects, as well as triple transfer buffers. The triple transfer buffers include present, past, and future buffers which jointly operate to minimize discontinuities in the output channels. The invention provides an E to C mode to allow the user to preview video which has been compressed and decompressed to verify that no unwanted system artifacts exist, or are created by the compression process. This previewing is done in real-time while the material is being compressed and stored. A user may also bypass the compression circuit and capture uncompressed still frames directly in the triple transfer buffer, and store the uncompressed still frames, thereby permitting the independent display of still and motion video in each output channel.

A random access audio/video processor having multiple outputs is disclosed. The random access audio/video processor includes a main control unit having an analog video back panel, an analog audio back panel, an analog input/output (I/O) board. An audio processing board, a video processing board, a video effects board, a syncronization board, and a system board (containing the main CPU). The video processing board includes a compressor for compressing input video signals, and a triple transfer buffer, for intermediate storage of digital video path. The video processing board further includes decompression circuits coupled to each of two triple transfer buffers for decompressing compressed stored video, and providing the decompressed video channels to an effects board for the addition of special effects. The audio processing board contains four digital signal processors for audio compression, decompression, and effects processor. It also contains triple transfer buffers for intermediate storage of digital audio data. The system board contains the main CPU, DMA controllers and SCSI interfaces required to perform high speed audio-video data transfers to/from disk. The triple transfer buffers of the present invention include a present buffer, a past buffer and a future buffer, the purpose of which is to ensure that there is sufficient video and audio material in the present buffers to minimize any discontinuities in either the audio or the video channel outputs. The invention provides an E to C mode to allow the user to view video which has been compressed and decompressed to verify that no unwanted system artifacts exist or are being created by the compression process. The viewing of the compressed and decompressed material is done in real-time while the material is being compressed and stored. Under software control, a user may bypass the compression circuit and capture uncompressed still frames directly in the triple transfer buffer, and store the uncompressed still frames, thereby permitting the independent display of still and motion video in each respective output channel.
