Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon synthesis using a noncobalt catalyst is used to produce waxy fuel and lubricant oil hydrocarbons from synthesis gas derived from natural gas. The waxy hydrocarbons are hydrodewaxed, with reduced conversion to lower boiling hydrocarbons, by contacting the waxy hydrocarbons, in the presence of hydrogen, with an unsulfided hydrodewaxing catalyst that has been reduced and then treated by contacting it with a stream containing one or more oxygenates.

A heavy hydrocarbon composition with utility as a heavy hydrocarbon base stock comprising at least 95 wt % paraffin molecules, of which at least 90 wt % are isoparaffin, containing hydrocarbon molecules having consecutive numbers of carbon atoms, is a liquid at 100&#xb0; C., at which temperature its kinematic viscosity, as measured by ASTM D-445, is above 8 cSt, has an initial boiling point of least 850&#xb0; F. (454&#xb0; C.) and an end boiling point of at least 1000&#xb0; F. (538&#xb0; C.), wherein the branching index (BI), as measured by the percentage of methyl hydrogens, and the branching proximity (CH&#x3e;4), as measured by the percentage of recurring methylene carbons which are four or more carbon atoms removed from an end group or branch, of said isoparaffinic hydrocarbon molecules, are such that:

Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon synthesis using a cobalt catalyst is used to produce waxy fuel and lubricant oil hydrocarbons from synthesis gas derived from natural gas. The waxy hydrocarbons are hydrodewaxed, with reduced conversion to lower boiling hydrocarbons, by contacting the waxy hydrocarbons, in the presence of hydrogen, with an unsulfided 10-ring, 1-dimensional zeolite catalyst that has been reduced and then treated by contacting it with the synthesized hydrocarbons containing one or more oxygenates, including indigenous oxygenate. Tail gas from the hydrodewaxing reactor can be used for the hydrocarbon synthesis.

Dewaxed fuel and lubricant base stocks are made by (a) producing a synthesis gas from natural gas, (b) reacting the Hand CO in the gas in the presence of a cobalt Fischer-Tropsch catalyst, at reaction conditions effective to synthesize a waxy hydrocarbon feed boiling in the fuel and lubricant oil ranges, which is hydrodewaxed in a first stage to produce a dewaxed fuel and a partially dewaxed lubricant fraction. The partially dewaxed lubricant fraction is separated into heavy and lower boiling fractions each of which is separately hydrodewaxed, to produce lubricant base stocks. A hydrodewaxing catalyst comprising a hydrogenation component, binder and solid acid component used to hydrodewax at least one, and preferably at least two of the waxy feed and partially dewaxed heavy and lower boiling lubricant fractions.

Production of fuels and lube oils from fischer-tropsch wax

A synthetic, isoparaffinic heavy hydrocarbon composition useful as a heavy lubricant base stock contains hydrocarbon molecules having consecutive numbers of carbon atoms, is a liquid at 100&#xb0; C., at which temperature its kinematic viscosity is above 8 cSt and has respective initial and end boiling points of at least 850 and 1000&#xb0; F. (454 and 538&#xb0; C.). The branching index BI and the branching proximity CH&#x3e;4 of the isoparaffinic hydrocarbon molecules, are such that:BI&#x2212;0.5(CH&#x3e;4)&#x3c;15; and&#x2003;&#x2003;(a)BI+0.85(CH&#x3e;4)&#x3c;45;&#x2003;&#x2003;(b)as measured over the hydrocarbon composition as a whole.

Synthetic isoparaffinic premium heavy lubricant base stock

A wide cut Fischer-Tropsch derived diesel fuel is produced wherein the distillate boils in a wider range than a conventional diesel fuel while providing favorable low temperature properties and environmentally beneficial effects. In particular, the fuel comprises a hydrocarbon distillate derived from the Fischer-Tropsch process having T90 greater than 640&deg; F. (338&deg; C.) but less than 1000&deg; F. (538&deg; C.) and a cold filter plugging point less than or equal to &plus;5&deg; C.
