An improved system and method for floating an object is disclosed by the present invention. The system includes an electromagnetic source for accommodating a wide weight-range of objects to be floated and for providing intelligent, responsive control of the system. The electromagnetic source includes a single Hall effect sensor for sensing the position change of the floating object and a microprocessor for intelligently controlling the floating object so that a better, simpler, and more stable operation is achieved. With the implementation of the microprocessor, a user friendly interface for initially placing the object on the system is achieved, and no complicate adjustments of the system are required to float a new object.

Magnetic floatation control system

A control system (80-1, 80-2) is provided for a grain dryer (10) having a path (22, 24) along which grain is conveyed from an entry opening (28) between first (12, 14) and second (18, 20) walls provided with second openings through which drying air can flow. A source (16) on the side of the first wall opposite the grain provides a flow of air through the first wall, through the grain and through the second wall to dry the grain. The grain dryer (10) further comprises metering rolls (30, 32) between the walls (12, 18, 14, 20) adjacent the end opposite the entry opening (28) to control the movement of the grain along the path (22, 24). The control system includes a first moisture probe (80-1) positioned remote from the metering rolls (30, 32), a second moisture probe (80-2) positioned adjacent the metering rolls (30, 32), and a microcomputer (150). The first (80-1) and second (80-2) moisture probes and the metering rolls (30, 32) are coupled to the microcomputer (150) for control of the metering rolls (30, 32) based upon the outputs of the moisture probes (80-1, 80-2).

Control system for a grain dryer and probe mounting apparatus therefor

Non-invasive oximetry wherein red and infrared light from light sources energized at different frequencies is applied to arterial blood-containing tissue of a living subject. The red and infrared light coming from this tissue is sensed in order to obtain frequency-muliplexed information as to the absorption of said light by said tissue, the information being processed in order to derive therefrom a measure of percent oxygen saturation of said blood. The processing includes filtering for separating information represented by red light absorption from information represented by infrared light absorption. In particular, both notch and bandpass filters are used, and AM detectors provide for further separating such information into DC and AC components.

Pulse oximetry

A motorcycle helmet with a brake light includes a duty cycled receiver circuit for receiving a radio frequency (RF) signal from a transmitter located on the motorcycle. The receiver circuit is generally turned off if the RF signal is not present. When the receiver detects the RF signal, the receiver is turned on. The brake light is illuminated when the receiver receives the RF signal. The brake light includes LEDs for providing light. The lens is a plastic lens which provides superior performance having spherical indentations on an interior surface.

A door hold open device for use with fire doors connected to a door closer unit. The hold open device has a latching means that automatically unlatches if the power supply drops below a predetermined threshold or a person attempts to disconnect the power supply. The device includes an electrical actuating means for unlatching the held open door. The actuating means allows a door to be latched open without constant current being supplied to the actuating means, so battery power is possible. The invention may be used with any door closer unit, does not require special wiring, and may include a self-contained power supply and an integral smoke detector.

Images of underwater features, animate and inanimate, are produced from substantial distances in any direction around a boat, using small and easily mountable sonar devices, including three sonar transducers, two being stationary and the third being directable, the transducers being operable at various ultrasonic frequencies. Under keyboard control and using completely integrated electronic circuitry, images and echo sounding reports are generated on a graphic video display. The images include a sector-shaped image from a sector scan which covers a selected range of azimuth angles at a selected down angle.

A battering charging system is controlled by a microprocessor to charge and discharge batteries while periodically effecting monitoring and control operations in which battery current data are registered to accumulate capacity data in a memory and to thereafter display such data which includes both charge and discharge capacity data. The system has different modes of operation which may be selected by a user, including a charge mode, a discharge mode and an autocycle mode. In the autocycle mode, efficiency rate data is computed and displayed.

A battery charger system is provided in which a microprocessor is used to discontinue application of a high charge current when the battery voltage drops below a peak value by a value greater than a threshold value corresponding to stored digital data. The microprocessor is also used to obtain a discharge mode of operation and an autocycle mode of operation in which a charge operation is performed after a discharge operation, the microprocessor being responsive to actuation of keys of a keyboard. In performing various operations, the microprocessor is used in performing analog-to-digital conversions and it is additionally used in computing energy capacity and efficiency.

A cordless telephone system includes a control unit having a speaker, a microphone and control circuitry for selective operation in a 'normal' mode for communications between the handset and an outside party, a 'local answer' mode for communications between a party at the control unit and an outside party, an 'intercom' mode for communications between parties at the control unit and the handset and a '3-way' mode for communications between parties at the control unit and handset and an outside party. A microprocessor so responds to ring detect, control and switch-generated interrupt signals as to obtain the desired communications.

A scanning radio receiver intended for use on the frequencies assigned to the Public Safety Radio Services and which is also operable for reception in the aircraft band from 118 MHz to 136 MHz. A ROM contains data establishing frequency limits and other information such that frequencies assigned to a number of service categories can be automatically searched in response to operation of service keys of a keyboard with the information storage requirements being minimized. For a service band having single frequencies or groups of frequencies which are not separated by fixed frequency increments, the data identifies the number of such frequencies or groups, the number of frequencies in each and a limit frequency of each. A processor outputs a frequency code to a frequency synthesizer while also processing input and stored data to develop the next code to be output.

There is disclosed a scanning radio receiver intended for use on the frequencies assigned to the Public Safety Radio Services and which is also operable for reception in the aircraft band from 118 MHz to 136 MHz. The receiver is operated under the control of a microcomputer which includes a ROM and a processor. The processor outputs a frequency code to a frequency synthesizer which controls the frequency of signals received by the receiver and at the same time, the processor synchronizes a timer which determines the amount of time allowed for the synthesizer to lock on a frequency before a signal present line is tested. While waiting for the synthesizer to lock, the system finds the next code which it will output. The time left after finding the next code is devoted to refreshing a display. When the synthesizer lock time has elapsed, the timer generates an interrupt signal which is transmitted to the processor and if the system is in a scanning mode and no signal is received, a new code is immediately output to the synthesizer.

There is disclosed a scanning radio receiver for use on the frequencies assigned to the Public Safety Radio Services in which frequency modulation is used and which also will receive the aircraft band from 118 to 136 MHz in which amplitude modulation is used. The receiver tuning is varied in response to the operation of a microprocessor controller which provides a control signal indicative of the form of modulation included on signals at the frequency to which the receiver is tuned at any instant. The receiver also includes a search capability and is responsive to user actuated keyboard controls for searching only those frequencies designated for use by a particular service.
