The present invention provides insecticidal compositions for killing flies. The composition comprises a core material, a sugar layer comprising a supersaturated solution of sugar and a toxicant, which binds the core material and is dried on the core material.

Granular fly bait

An insect trap employing a light transmissive sleeve for placement over a suspended light source wherein the sleeve is removably secured to the light. The sleeve includes vanes circumferentially spaced on a cylinder with arcuate segments of the cylinder exposed therebetween. An adhesive coating is applied to the vanes and the arcuate segments. Attracted by the light, the insects are drawn to the adhesively coated surfaces and trapped. The sleeve is replaced periodically as necessary.

A container for granular insecticide having a central chamber with a narrow rectangular cross sectional area. A multiplicity of rectangular slots are formed in rows and columns in the chamber to provide access to the insecticide and also enhance its attractantcy properties. The slots are dimensioned to contain the granular material while permitting access thereto by the feeding parts of the insects.

An insect trap is disclosed which includes a double-cone structure having a receiving chamber for an attractive composition with a tapered surface and a retaining chamber for placement thereon. A conical indentation formed in the bottom of the retaining chamber provides a tapered surface which is spaced from that of the receiving chamber thus forming the first cone. The central portion of the indentation provides the second cone which is light-transmissive and has a central opening. The tapered surfaces of the chambers are opaque. An insect passageway is formed in the receiving chamber and communicates with the central opening. Thus, an insect entering the chamber through the tapered surfaces experiences light from above through the second cone and is drawn upward through the central opening into the retaining chamber where it is trapped.

An improvement for use with a conventional ear identification tag of the two-part type where a 'button' is inserted through the ear of the animal to engage a 'boss' from which a depending identification tag is attached comprises a press-fit retaining ring attached to a hollow housing for attachment over the boss of the ear identification tag. The housing may be used to house and dispense insecticide, insect repellents, drugs and the like, or it may be used to house a miniature radio transmitter or transceiver of the type frequently worn by animals, such as dairy cattle. The housing and/or the attachment means may be made of frangible material to permit quick removal when the material in the housing is used up or no longer is necessary, or where replacement with a new housing filled with insecticide, insect repellent, drugs, or the like is desired.
