An electrical socket for interconnecting an LGA chip with a PCB includes an insulative housing () and a multiplicity of terminals (). The housing includes a plurality of passageways () extending therethrough for engagingly accommodating corresponding terminals. Each terminal includes a locating plate () arranged in rows, and a mating beam () connected to the locating plate and extending along the corresponding row. The terminals and the mating beams are arranged so that a projection A of each mating beam along the corresponding row is longer than a distance B between each two adjacent locating plates of two adjacent terminals arranged in the same row. Accordingly, when the mating beams are engaged with electrodes of the LGA chip, the mating beams are long enough to provide excellent resilient deflection characteristics, thereby ensuring good mechanical and electrical connection between the mating beams and the electrodes.

A low-inductance, low-resistance electrical connector for delivering power from a power supply to an IC module comprises a ground contact, a processor power contact and a cache power contact stamped from pure copper sheets and separated from each other by thin insulation film. Plastic members are provided with spring arms to engage with and thus provide sufficient normal force for contact arms of the corresponding contacts to engage with corresponding contact pads of the IC module thereby ensuring a reliable electrical connection. The ground contact and the processor and cache power contacts are connected with a capacitor board by pressure engagement to connect with the power supply. A number of individual signal contacts is also provided to interconnect a signal source with the IC module via a signal board.

A soft internal touch contact (,) for a Land Grid Array (LGA) socket (,) for interconnecting an LGA package (,) with a printed circuit board (PCB) (,) comprises first and second spring arms (,) on opposite ends thereof, and a solder portion (,) between the first and second spring arms for being soldered to the PCB. Soft internal touch contact for IC socket

A driving mechanism is used for a socket which comprises a cover movably mounted on a base. The driving mechanism comprises a first reception space defined in the cover, a second reception space defined in the base and communicating with the first reception space, a driving cam having an upper portion rotatably retained in the first reception space of the cover and a lower portion rotatably and movably retained in the second reception space of the base. The upper portion of the driving cam is operative to rotate the lower portion of the driving cam in the second reception space which is subjected to reactive force from inner wall of the second reception space so that as the cam rotates it also moves linearly, thereby forcing the upper portion of the driving cam to pulling the cover to translate on the base.

Single-point driving mechanism of a ZIF PGA socket and the socket using the same

A driving mechanism is provided for a socket which comprises a cover movably mounted on a base between an open status and a closed status. The driving mechanism comprises a first reception space defined in the cover, a second reception space defined in the base and communicating with the first reception space, a driving device having an upper portion retained in the first reception space of the cover and selectively operative to move the cover in opposite directions, and a lower portion connected to the upper portion and having a positioning member operatively switchable between a first position and a second position in the second reception space of the base. The upper portion of the driving device moves the cover between the open status and the closed status depending on the relative position of the positioning member in the second reception space.

A locking mechanism is used in a pin grid array socket which comprises a movably housing and a stationary housing. The locking mechanism comprises a cam lever having a handle bar connected to a cam which is pivotally connected to the stationary housing and operative to drive the movable housing to move in opposite directions. An elongated channel is defined along the handle bar. A first reception groove is formed in the movable housing. A latch is movably and rotatably received in the elongated channel. A head of the latch is movably inserted into the first reception groove for locking the cam lever and preventing the movable housing from movement.

Locking mechanism for a cam lever used in a pin grid array socket

A socket comprises a cover movably mounted on a base between an open status and a closed status. The cover and the base each have a body portion and a head portion extending from the body portion. The cover has first pair of inner walls and second pair of inner walls respectively formed in the body portion and the head portion thereof for slidably retaining the corresponding body portion and head portion of the base. Positioning members containing spaced shallow regions are formed in the body portion and the head portion of the base for receiving protrusions formed in the corresponding body portion and head portion of the cover so that the cover can be retained in either the open status or closed status by cooperation of the positioning members and the protrusions.

Zif socket

A cam mechanism for driving a zero-insertion-force connector between open and closed positions is disclosed. The connector include a base for being mounted to a mother board. A cover is slidably mounted on the base. The cam mechanism includes a cam having a head rotatably mounted on the base, a body located between the base and the cover and a bottom face supported by the cover. First and second depressions are formed on the body of the cam and angularly spaced from each other 90 degrees. A positioning arm is integrally formed with the base. The positioning arm has a bulge formed at its free end. When the cam is rotated to a position wherein the bulge is fittingly received in the first depression, the cam pushes the cover relative to the base to reach the open position. When the cam is rotated to a position wherein the bulge is fittingly received in the second depression, the cam pushes the cover relative to the base to reach the closed position.

Cam mechanism for a zero-insertion-force connector

A connector (10) for electrically connecting a daughter board (200) and a mother board (100) includes a base (12) securely mounted/riveted on the mother board (100) and a cover (26) horizontally slidably attached to the base (12) by means of a cam lever (18). A plurality of passageways (36) obliquely extend through the cover (26) for receiving therein a corresponding number of slanted contacts (38) wherein the bottom end (40) of each contact (38) projects out of the cover (26). The daughter board (200) is disposed under the cover (26) whereby the bottom end (40) of each contact (38) is mechanically and electrically engaged with a corresponding circuit pad (202) on the daughter board (200). The upper ends (42) of the contacts (38) are connected by soldier to one end of an FPC (300) (Flexible Printed Circuits) which is connected to the mother board (100) at the other end whereby the daughter board (200) can be electrically interconnected to the mother board (100) through the connector (10) and the associated FPC (300).

The second housings are simultaneously moved in the first housing by an actuator rod which is driven by a cam lever.
