A multi-pulse propulsion system includes at least one pulse chamber containing at least one propellant for igniting during at least one pulse of the multi-pulse propulsion system, at least one additional pulse chamber containing at least one additional propellant for igniting during at least one additional pulse of the multi-pulse propulsion system, and at least one passive fuzing system configured to initiate the at least one additional pulse. The at least one passive fuzing system includes a sensor and an igniter. The sensor is configured to sense an environmental condition and/or a ballistic condition. The igniter is configured to provide a stimulus that causes ignition of the at least one additional propellant in response to the sensor sensing that the environmental condition and/or the ballistic condition has reached or exceeded one or more threshold values.

Multi-pulse propulsion system with passive initiation

An object is made by sealing a metal body of the part to a nonmetal part of the object. The metal body is formed by a powdered metallurgy process, with the metal body being formed around or with the nonmetal part. Metal powder may be sintered or bonded to form the metal body around the nonmetal part, with the metal body then contracting as it sinters and cools to form the seal around the nonmetal part. The nonmetal part may be a glass or ceramic part, and may include electrical conductors passing through nonmetal part, and sealed in holes in the glass or ceramic. The object may be any of a variety of devices such as an electro-explosive device or an electronics device.

Method of making an object with a metal-non-metal seal

Embodiments of the present subject matter provide a compound and material that may be used as a lead-free primary explosive. An embodiment of the present subject matter provides the compound copper(I) nitrotetrazolate. Certain embodiments of the present subject matter provide methods for preparing lead-free primary explosives. The method includes: providing cuprous salt; providing water; providing 5-nitrotetrazolate salt; combining the cuprous salt, water and 5-nitrotetrazolate salt to form a mixture; and heating the mixture. The method may also include providing cuprous chloride and providing sodium 5-nitrotetrazolate. Certain embodiments of the present subject matter also provide methods for preparing copper(I) nitrotetrazolate. The method includes: providing cuprous salt; providing water; providing 5-nitrotetrazolate salt; combining the cuprous salt, water and 5-nitrotetrazolate salt to form a mixture; and heating the mixture. The method may also include providing cuprous chloride and providing sodium 5-nitrotetrazolate.
