An audio speaker with at least two electric coils on opposite sides of at least one ferro-magnetic plate, the coils and plate forming a radial electro-magnet. A radial electro-magnet can offer many advantages in stereo loudspeakers. The coils are electrically driven in opposite directions. Multiple sets of two coils and intervening ferro-magnetic plate may be provided, adjacent sets being separated by a non-magnetic plate.

A multiprogrammer system, for monitoring and optimizing implant performance, includes at least two programmers and an implant. Each programmer may perform inquiry and programming operations on the implant. In an inquiry operation, the programmer retrieves some or all of the configuration parameters from the implant. In a programming operation, the programmer provides one or more modified parameters to the implant. As part of the programming operation, the programmer is configured to verify that it is aware of the implant's current parameters before sending modified parameters. The current programmer verifies that the implant's parameters have not been altered since the current programmer's last interaction with the implant. If the parameters have been altered, the current programmer aborts the programming operation and provides notification. The verification may be performed by the implant, i.e., it may verify that the programmer is aware of the current device parameters before the implant accepts modified parameters.

Implantable device and programmer system which permits multiple programmers

A multiprogrammer system for monitoring and optimizing implantable device performance. In one embodiment, the system includes at least two programming devices and an implantable device. Each of the programming devices may be used to perform inquiry and programming operations on the implantable device. In an inquiry operation, the programming device retrieves some or all of the configuration parameters from the implantable device. In a programming operation, the programming device provides one or more modified parameters to the implantable device. As part of the programming operation, the programming device is configured to verify that it is aware of the implantable device's current parameters before sending the modified parameters. In other words, the current programming device verifies that the implantable device's parameters have not been altered by another programming device since the current programming device's last interaction with the implantable device. If the parameters have been altered, the current programming device aborts the programming operation and notifies the operator. In alternate embodiments, the verification may be performed by the implantable device, i.e. the implantable device may verify that the programming device is aware of the current device parameters before the implantable device accepts the modified parameters.

A spider-less and suspension-less speaker system, having a diaphragm constrained to move in a linear direction and supported by a frictionless or low friction support. A voice coil coupled to an audio input drives the speaker diaphragm. A position sensor determines the physical position of the diaphragm. A control circuit uses the sensed position information to modify the audio signal in such a way that the interaction of the voice coil and the magnetic field both drives the diaphragm to produce an audible output and restores the diaphragm to a neutral position in the absence of a further audio signal.

Spider-less loudspeaker with active restoring apparatus

An apparatus and method for treatment of congestive heart failure from the right side of the heart. An implantable cardiac stimulation system with a multi-electrode lead having three or more selectable electrodes, together with apparatus for identifying an optimal subset of electrodes, apparatus for shaping a propagating wave front, and apparatus for modifying the intrinsic ventricular cardiac activation sequence, or generating simultaneous or near simultaneous pacing pulses to the septum or right ventricular outflow tract during ventricular systole in order to improve left ventricular cardiac efficiency and reduce mitral regurgitation in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy. A three dimensional map of electrode placement may be calculated. A sub set of the available electrodes in the right side of the heart is selected for stimulation such that septal motion during systole is reduced or the mitral valve area is stiffened to reduce mitral regurgitation.

Multi-electrode apparatus and method for treatment of congestive heart failure

A cardiac stimulator with a method and apparatus for automatically switching the cardiac stimulator to its normal mode from its backup mode. A fault monitor receives fault signals and determines whether a particular fault warrants activation of the backup mode. If so, a number of attempts to reactivate the normal mode are permitted. The normal mode may be reactivated if the stored information is valid and if the circuitry is operational.
