Systems and methods to isolate a vibration source (e.g., a compressor) externally are disclosed. The embodiments generally include preventing/reducing vibration and/or pulsation transmission from the vibration source by one or more functional/structural isolating members, and preventing/reducing sound radiated from the vibration source by one or more sound enclosures.

Sound control for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning unit

Systems, apparatus and methods for providing personalized comfort to occupants of a conditioned space. A precision air device having a standalone controllable fan with directional nozzles is provided. The precision air device includes environmental and occupancy sensors, and communicates with a user device and with other precision air devices in the space. Application software installed on an occupant's user device enables the occupant to specify whether it is too cold or too warm within his or her personal space, or microzone. The collective demand of all microzones within a VAV macrozone is determined by a precision air aggregator to adjust a controllable VAV damper for that macrozone.

A scroll compressor is disclosed. The compressor includes an enclosure including a compression mechanism that compresses a working fluid. A discharge port discharges a compressed working fluid. A discharge plenum receives the compressed working fluid from the discharge port. A pulsation absorber is disposed within the discharge plenum, the pulsation absorber dividing the discharge plenum into a plurality of volumes.

Microzone HVAC system with precision air device

An air flow mixer that mixes two or more air streams that may enter air moving equipment at significantly different temperatures. In particular, methods, systems and apparatuses are disclosed that are directed to an air flow mixer that is structured and arranged to promote cross flow of portions of the air streams relative to each other through the air flow mixer. The cross flow resulting from the structure and arrangement of the air flow mixer avoids sharp delineations or fluid borders between the air streams that can be caused, for example, by a relatively higher temperature of one of the air streams and a relatively lower temperature of another one of the air streams.

Methods, systems, and apparatuses are disclosed to isolate operation vibration of a compressor to reduce operational sound. A compressor may include an external shell, and one or more isolators that separate a compression mechanism of a compressor from the external shell. The isolator can help isolate the vibration of the compression mechanism from the external shell. The isolator can also support a weight of the compression mechanism. The external shell can also include one or more internal seals. The internal seals can help separate a low-pressure side (e.g., a suction side) and a high-pressure side (e.g., a discharge side) of the compression mechanism. The compressor may also include a pressure balancing mechanism configured to help reduce a pressure difference between, for example, two ends of the compression mechanism, so as to reduce/eliminate the compression mechanism from physical shift in position due to the pressure difference.

A pulsation and vibration control device for use with a compressor, which provides multiple vibration-reducing components in a compact space. The device comprises a muffler including a flange at the compressor end, a muffler body with vibration control features such as baffles, and a free end on a discharge line side but kept out of contact with the discharge line, and a bellows assembly, including an attachment to the muffler flange, an attachment to the discharge line, and first and second convolutions and a middle section which are sized such that they can fit over the muffler body without contacting it.

A multi-stage low pressure drop muffler for a compressor including a first plate having a hole, a tube attached to the first plate, a plurality of holes disposed around the circumference of the tube, a plurality of tubes extending through a second plate, and an internal ring disposed on the second plate between the center of the second plate and the plurality of tubes. The muffler is designed to muffle a wide range of frequencies, minimize pressure reduction, improve fluid flow, and improve compressor efficiency.

A sound-abating flow disruptor quiets a PTAC refrigerant system by disturbing the airflow between an energized electric heater and an adjacent fan wheel. In some embodiments, the flow disruptor is a perforated metal plate that attenuates a whistle, which appears to be caused by vortex shedding in the confined area between the energized heater and the fan. In some cases, the heater comprises selectively energizable heating elements of various wattage. The heating elements closest to the fan wheel are the lower wattage ones to minimize the heat near the fan.

A heat exchanger within a sheet metal enclosure includes mounting structure that provides double vibration isolation to minimize noise. The mounting structure includes at least one resilient vibration isolator that couples the heat exchanger to a vibration isolation plate, and includes other similar isolators that couple the plate to the enclosure. The mass of the plate is sufficient to somewhat emulate a dual mass/spring system having two degrees of freedom. To this end, the plate is preferably thicker than the sheet metal walls of the enclosure. The double vibration isolated heat exchanger is especially applicable to systems having several heat pumps that are mounted overhead. In some embodiments, the heat pump's refrigerant compressor is also resiliently mounted to the vibration isolation plate.

A fan assembly. The fan assembly comprises: a fan having an axis and an outer periphery; a housing about the fan; and a cutoff separating fan inflow from fan outflow. The cutoff is preferably arranged parallel to the axis and is proximal to the outer periphery. The cutoff includes first and second layers. The first layer provides structural support and has a plurality of apertures therethrough. The second layer is formed of an acoustically insulating material.
