A composite diving board which has a sandwich structure of an upper and lower composite laminate surrounding a central core. The laminates comprise a fibrous material comprising fibers of carbon, graphite, aramid, oriented high molecular weight polyethylene, oriented high molecular weight polypropylene, and/or boron. The core has a decrease in thickness along the longitudinal axis of the board from a fulcrum region toward the tip end of the board.

Composite diving board

A hybrid diving board is disclosed. The hybrid diving board may include a primary diving board having a flat skid-resistant top surface and a bottom surface extending between a first end and a second end, wherein the board first end is configured for attachment to a diving stand and the board second end is a free end. A flex spring and/or a torsional control spring may also be provided that has a first end and a second end wherein the spring is adjacent to a surface of the diving board. The flex spring first end may be configured for attachment to the diving stand or to the diving board at a location proximate the board first end. The hybrid diving board may have a spring constant and/or average modulus of elasticity that is higher than a corresponding spring constant or modulus of elasticity of the primary diving board.

A corneal prosthesis including an optical element having an optically transparent central portion and an anterior surface capable of supporting a layer of epithelial cells, the optical element being made of optical material having water content between 50% and 90% and a tensile strength greater than 20 kg/cm.sup.2, and a porous outer skirt secured to the periphery of said element, said skirt being sufficiently porous to permit cell ingrowth and tissue attachment. Also disclosed are methods of making, seeding and using corneal implants having epithelial layers thereon and porous implant material of a coherent mass of randomly oriented fibers having an interconnected network of pores.

Surgical method for implanting a corneal implant

A multifocal ophthalmic lens includes first and second lens members. Each lens member has a smooth outer surface and an inner surface with an edge about its perimeter. A multifocal diffractive zone plate on at least one of the lens members is characterized by an index of refraction. The lens members are joined at the edges by ultrasonic welding to form a cavity adjacent the diffractive zone plate. The cavity is filled with a liquid medication having an index of refraction which is different than the index of refraction of the diffractive zone plate. A hole through one of the lens members functions as a fluid transport mechanism to permit transfer of the medication between the cavity and eye.

Multifocal diffractive ophthalmic lens and method of manufacture

An ophthalmic lens exhibiting diffractive power has a plurality of diffractive zones and smooth surfaces. The zones are arranged such that R.sub.0.sup.2 does not equal R.sub.1.sup.2 -R.sub.0.sup.2 where R.sub.0 is the radius of the central zone and R.sub.1 is the radius of the first annular zone.

A multifocal ophthalmic lens has a plurality of concentric diffractive zones with adjacent zones separated by steps having predetermined heights. Each step has an outer corner and each outer corner has a radius of curvature equal to at least one half the height of the step associated therewith.
