A food processor includes a motor driven shaft having a central bore in which a blade spindle is located. The blade spindle is axially translatable relative to the shaft. The spindle and shaft are coupled together so that the spindle rotates with the shaft. The blade spindle and a blade assembly connected thereto are mounted on a lid or the like that fits on an upper edge of a conventional receptacle, formed basically as a jar. Nooks and crannies usually associated with food processor bowls are eliminated to facilitate cleaning of the jar and lid.

Anti-jackknifing apparatus beneath the fifth wheel of a tractor-trailer vehicle includes a control ring carried rotably by the tractor and coupled to the trailer by interfering vertical projections directed from each of the tractor and the control ring. A sector plate, shiftable between angular stops, is mounted on the tractor co-axial with the control ring and carries three angularly spaced apart braking devices for selectively gripping the control ring. The central one of the braking devices grips the control ring in response to application of the vehicle service brakes while a control valve causes the other braking devices to grip the control ring in response to angular shifting of the sector plate.

Tractor-trailer control apparatus

A post-operative patient drainage and irrigation apparatus, employing a simplified two-position valve to control the passage of fluids into and out of the body of the patient. A two-channel catheter directs body fluids into and out of the control valve. A first flexible tube directs irrigating solutions from a source into the control valve. A second flexible tube, attached at one end to the control valve, serves as a waste conduit from the said valve to a waste receptacle. Check valves carried in rubber squeeze bulbs in the first and second flexible tubes further control the direction of fluid flow and serve to clear obstructions in the apparatus. A simple control changes the two-position control valve position from one mode to another.

A control device carried beneath the fifth wheel of the tractor or truck of a tractor-trailer vehicle and coupled to the trailer, in which dangerous lateral movements of the trailer with respect to the tractor while under way are prevented by arresting means responsive to the vehicle brakes applied during the initial lateral movement of the trailer. The lateral travel of the trailer is stopped before it can reach a point beyond which it cannot be returned to a normal position and which might result in jackknifing. The device acts upon normal vehicle brake application by the driver and without regard to the direction or directions of lateral movement.

A self-energizing clutch is disclosed, which is of such construction as to enable it to be engaged or disengaged at will, irrespective of the direction or relative speed of rotation, as between the driving and driven components of the clutch. The clutch consists of components or parts which are quickly and easily assemblable, and which are resistant to breakage or damage during the operation of the clutch. A particular feature of the clutch is the creation of a tangential force during operation of the clutch, which exceeds the torque or force between the driving and driven parts of the clutch, in order to disengage the clutch.
