A comminutor for shredding rag-like materials includes a frame member having a cutter bar that is affixed thereto and has a plurality of cutter teeth, and includes screen bars aligned with the cutter teeth. Each of the screen bars has an end that fits closely to its adjacent cutter tooth and the frame member so as to close a gap between the cutter tooth and the frame member. The end of the screen bar may include a flange that fits closely to the frame member and a tab proximate to the flange that fits closely to the cutter tooth. In an embodiment where the cutter tooth is flush with the frame member, the end of the screen bar includes a flange that fits closely to both frame member and the cutter tooth.

Comminutor with screening conditioner

A sewage cleaning and comminuting system is provided with a pair of dissimilar sized cutter stacks that extends across an influent channel which intercepts all solids too large to pass there through. The dissimilar sized cutter stacks are capable of grinding large and round shaped objects. The cutter stacks rotate at dissimilar speeds and require less energy to grind solids than other grinders having similar sized grinders rotating at the same speed. The system includes an integrated cleaning assembly whereby debris accumulated between the cutter disks is removed as the cutter disks rotate. Embodiments are provided including grinders that employ three and four shafts. Another embodiment is directed to an improved cutter disk. Yet another embodiment includes an auger screen assembly used in conjunction with the comminuting system to remove solids from the effluent stream.

Twin-shaft comminutor having dissimilar sized cutters

A comminuting apparatus including a filtering screen member for collecting solids carried by an effluent stream. The filtering screen member has an upstream side and a downstream side. The comminutor apparatus further includes a twin shaft grinder for grinding solids contained in the effluent stream and for cleaning the filtering screen member of solids collected thereon. The comminutor apparatus also includes a mounting member in the form of frame-like structure for mounting the twin shaft grinder at a spaced apart distance from the upstream side of the filtering screen member. Additionally, the comminutor apparatus includes a moving device in the form of a drive motor for moving the twin shaft grinder past the upstream side of the filtering screen member such that the twin shaft grinder is continuously spaced from the filtering screen member during the movement of the twin shaft grinder.

Screen cleaning and comminuting system

A sewage cleaning and comminuting system is provided with a transverse semi-circular concave filtering screen that extends across an influent channel which intercepts all solids too large to pass therethrough. A combined screen cleaning and comminuting grinder unit is mounted in front of the screen in close relationship. It has a concave surface for reciprocating motion therebetween along the full extent of the screen, so as to clean and remove large solids intercepted by the screen surface, and to subsequently comminute such larger solids. As they are recirculated back into incoming flow of sewage, larger solids are ground into smaller solids by the grinder so that they can pass through the screen. A semi-circular screen in combination with a grinder is a preferred embodiment of the system. The system includes a single or multiple drive means whereby the comminuting grinder is actuated and provided with the reciprocating motion along the surface of the screen.

An integrated unitary comminuting system adapted for wastewater channel use is provided with devices which include a stationary single or dual semi-cylindrical-like sizing and sweeping screen member each having a rotating sweeping mechanism of interactive slotted comb bars or blades with tynes or teeth, so as to sweep and clear lodged or agglomerated solids adhering to the outer circumference surface of the semi-cylindrical-like screen member, disposed in spaced apart contiguous parallel relationship with a twin shaft shredder device having two parallel shafts with shredder or grinder teeth along the length thereof that rotate in opposite senses. The unitary system of devices may be positioned perpendicular between the influent and effluent side of the wastewater flow in a channel so that solids therein will encounter the semi-cylindrical-like sizing and sweeping screen members or the twin shaft shredder as the wastewater flows through the channel. Both the single or dual stationary semi-cylindrical-like screen devices cause solids which do not flow directly therethrough to be forcefully swept and diverted from the outer surfaces of the stationary sizing screen members by the rotating sweeping interactive blades mechanism of the system into surrounding the wastewater flow so as to cause and divert or direct the solids to flow into the twin shaft shredder device, aided by circulating wastewater currents generated in the wastewater flow near the entrance to the twin shaft shredder which is generated in part by the rotating sweeping interactive blades of the screening devices, whereupon the removed solids are efficiently channelled into the twin shaft shredder device along with the other wastewater and solids flow where they are reduced in particle size.

Integrated comminuting screening and shredding system for liquid waste

An improved method for producing one-piece cutter body members for comminuting apparatus for shredding, crushing and grinding bulk solid waste materials is provided. The process creates one-piece cutter body members having cutter teeth distributed along the length of the body members for rotation when in fixed engagement with twin or multiple parallel shafts of the bulk solid waste material comminuting apparatus. The resulting one-piece cutter body members are adaptable to intermeshing comminuting action each having cutting teeth which may be shaped for cutting in both of two opposite directions of rotation.

Method for producing one-piece cutter body members for comminuting

An improved apparatus for shredding, crushing and grinding solid waste materials to the desired particle sizes and shape for waste disposal or other uses is provided in which two unitary i.e. one-piece shredding members having a composite cutting teeth and tooth spacing arrangement in intermeshing shredding relationship mounted on substantially parallel shafts and are positioned in a transverse arrangement to the direction of waste material flow as it is introduced into the crushing apparatus. A shredding element of each shredding member interacts with an element of the other member whereby the shredding elements cooperatively interact on an inlet side of the apparatus. On an outlet or discharge side of the interacting members is positioned relative to a sizing means or screen useful for the passage of solid waste material particles of predetermined size and configuration, while simultaneously rejecting the passage of other improperly sized and shaped particles, for reprocessing through the apparatus.

Solid waste crusher and sizing apparatus

An in-line crushing system is provided which is capable of reducing and crushing both wet and dry material pieces passing therethrough to free-flowing sizes, that utilizes an internal stationary cutter array in conjunction with coaxially aligned rotatable drum or shaft for intermeshing shredding action between the stationary cutter array and cutting blades affixed to the drum or shaft. The operative mechanical crushing structural features of the crushing system provides for convenient accessibility and removal of the cutter array and cutting blades from an inner housing space of the system along a path transverse to a material flow path of the system, without disruption of the system's physical in-line arrangement or location owing to the lack of a need to remove the entire in-line crushing system for purposes such as inspection, repair or replacement of the cutter array and cutting blades in combination.

Crushing device

Improved bar screen raking systems are provided with telescopical boom members, forming the rake arm controlling displacement up and down, in combination with a hydraulic piston rod cylinder, controlling displacement in and out. In one embodiment the raking system includes a telescopical rake arm boom comprising a boom member supporting a bearing slide and ball carrier, a cam follower and track arrangement in fixed spaced apart parallel disposition on opposing sides along the length of said boom, a boom side member connected to said bearing and cam arrangements for carrying a rake, a hydraulic piston driven cable device fixedly supported by said boom and parallel to said bearing slide and cam follower arrangements for controlling boom displacement up and down and a hydraulic piston rod cylinder device for controlling boom displacement in and out. In a second embodiment a raking system includes a telescopical rake arm boom comprising outer stationary axially disposed members, an inner axially disposed cylindrical telescopable member having a rake connected to one end and connected at the other end to an axially disposed ball screw arrangement for controlling displacement of said boom and rake up and down, and a hydraulic piston rod cylinder device for controlling boom displacement in and out.

Telescopical bar screen raking system

An improved two part detachable shaft device is connected to a rotatable cutting and shredding member of a comminutor. When these detachable shaft devices are mechanically key connected to the rotatable member along the axis of the comminutor on opposite sides thereof, the shafts and rotatable member form an effective unitary rigidly mounted rotor along the axis of the comminutor and perpendicular to the flow of fluid through the comminutor. Each detachable shaft device provides a unique and convenient means whereby a comminutor cutting and shredding member or both or either shaft device may be readily and efficiently removed for repair or replacement. Each of the detachable shaft devices includes a unique bearing sealing arrangement into which each end of the shaft not connected to the rotatable member extends. One shaft is characterized as the blind side, which provides axial support and sealing of the rotor only, while the other shaft is characterized as the drive side, which provides axial support, fluid sealing and torsion drive through the shaft to the rotor within the comminutor.

Two part axial drive device each having self contained bearing sealing

An improved comminutor is provided having a one piece stationary hemispherical cage member and a one piece spherical-like rotatable cutting and shredding member adapted for use with the hemispherical cage in comminuting action with the inline flow of sewage. The hemispherical cage structure is formed by a plurality of spaced apart arcuate elements disposed about an axis of said hemispherical cage and are interconnected at their diametrical ends by a circular comb-like section configuration thereof having a plurality of radially inward projecting teeth. Each arcuate element has one of said teeth disposed at the terminal ends thereof, in alignment therewith and forming an integral part thereof. The rotatable structure of the device in its preferred embodiment incudes at least two substantially diametrically opposed C-shaped or curved arms of predetermined width and may be disposed co-axially with said cage and in the path of sewage flow while having a plurality of cutting and shredding teeth formed thereon and in spaced-apart relationship with the hemispherical cage for interengaging comminuting action with the radially extending teeth portions of the stationary comb-like section and for sweeping through the slots formed in the cage. The teeth of the cutting and shredding arms of the rotatable arcuate-like members are in rotational interengagement relationship with the periphically disposed comb-like section of the cage for comminuting sewage at least once during each revolution of the cutting and shredding arms.

Comminutor for inline flow of sewage

An improved comminutor for channels or inline conduits that carry the flow of liquid sewage which includes a semi-cylindrical concave cage formed of a plurality of axially spaced apart sections of arcuate rings or bars connected together arcuately and axially. A plurality of comb-like members are mounted at spaced intervals along the inner surface contour of the semi-cylindrical concave cage member with the teeth of its comb-like members in axial alignment with corresponding sections of the rings or bars which form the cage member. A plurality of rotatable cutting and shredding arms are mounted axially along a helical spiral like path in spaced relationship with the cage member with a plurality of comb-like members for interengaging comminuting action with radially extending portions of their respective teeth. The teeth of the cutting and shredding arms may be in engagement with each tooth of the comb-like members and each of the slotted openings of the cage member at least once during each revolution of the cutting and shredding arms. In another embodiment of the invention the comminutor includes a hemispherical concave cage formed in a similar manner as recited above with respect to the semi-cylindrical cage. In this embodiment the rotatable cutting and shredding arms extend radially outward and have a plurality of teeth at the periphery thereof which travel along paths that conform to the inner concave surface of the hemispherical cage so as to interengage in comminuting action with the cage and the comb-like cutter teeth in a similar manner as in the semi-cylindrical cage embodiment.
