A method of clutch wear notification comprises detecting engaged clutch positions at a first interval and storing the values of the engaged clutch positions. The stored values of the engaged clutch positions can be averaged at a second interval to create running averages, and the running averages can be stored. The running averages are compared at a third interval to determine a rate of change in the clutch positions. A clutch wear-out is signaled when comparing the running averages indicates that the rate of change in the clutch positions deviates from a normal rate of change. The clutch position during an engaged condition can deviate from the normal rate of change when the axial position of the release bearing begins to increase due to an adjustment mechanism ceasing to adjust.

Clutch wear-out

An adjustment mechanism for a clutch is positioned between the diaphragm spring and the pressure plate, the adjustment mechanism including: a first cam ring rotatably fixed with respect to the pressure plate, a second cam ring rotatable relative to the first cam ring and both cam rings having a plurality of cam surfaces configured such that rotation of the second cam ring relative to the first cam ring varies a height of the adjustment mechanism, and a torsion spring including a longitudinal axis. The torsion spring is disposed in the annular groove. The torsion spring includes a helical round cylindrical body that extends to a first end connected to the first cam ring and the torsion spring has a second end connected to the pressure plate. The torsion spring applies a biasing force to the second cam ring promoting rotation of the second cam ring relative to the first cam ring. The pressure plate includes a locking slot formed therein partially through the pressure plate and through the opposing surface. The locking slot is formed at an angle relative to the opposing surface and the second end of the torsion spring includes a locking hook formed thereon. The locking hook extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the torsion spring. The locking hook is disposed in the locking slot fixing the locking hook relative to the pressure plate.

A transmission includes an input shaft coupled to a prime mover, a countershaft, main shaft, and an output shaft, with gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. A shift actuator selectively couples the input shaft to the main shaft by rotatably coupling gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. The shift actuator is mounted on an exterior wall of a housing including the countershaft and the main shaft. An integrated actuator housing includes a single external power access for the shift actuator. A controller interprets a shaft displacement angle, determines if the transmission is in an imminent zero or zero torque region, and performs a transmission operation in response to the transmission in the imminent zero or zero torque region.

High efficiency, high output transmission

A transmission includes an input shaft coupled to a prime mover, a countershaft, main shaft, and an output shaft, with gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. A shift actuator selectively couples the input shaft to the main shaft by rotatably coupling gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. The shift actuator is mounted on an exterior wall of a housing including the countershaft and the main shaft. An integrated actuator housing is operationally coupled to the shift actuator and a linear clutch actuator. The linear clutch actuator is a self-adjusting actuator, and the transmission includes a self-adjusting clutch.

A controller controls the shift actuator utilizing an actuating pulse and an opposing pulse.
