A baffle seal for a thrust reverser of a gas turbine engine includes a seal body of a resilient material. The seal body has a relatively flat central portion with opposed front and back sides. A raised sealing rim extends at least partially around the central portion. An outer periphery of the sealing rim extends beyond an outer periphery of the central portion so as to define an exposed sealing surface.

Baffle seal for gas turbine engine thrust reverser

A transcowl for a gas turbine engine thrust reverser includes an arcuate outer wall; an arcuate inner wall; and an arcuate baffle positioned between the inner and outer walls at a forward end of the transcowl. The baffle has an arcuate cross-sectional shape which defines a forward-facing interior area. An arcuate forward seal is carried at a forward end of the inner wall. The forward seal includes a plurality of axially-extending, spaced-apart arcuate seal teeth which collectively define a labyrinth seal.

Sealing arrangements for gas turbine engine thrust reverser

An apparatus and method for suppressing dynamic instability in a bleed duct of a gas turbine engine includes a fan bypass duct configured to permit a flow of air through the gas turbine engine. The fan bypass duct defines a fan duct surface, and the bleed duct has an inlet in fluid communication with the fan bypass duct and a flow control valve having an opened position and a closed position. A flow diverter is positioned on the fan duct surface proximate the inlet of the bleed duct and diverts the flow of air from the inlet when the flow control valve is closed, while permitting a portion of the flow of air to enter the inlet when the flow control valve is opened.

Apparatus and method for suppressing dynamic pressure instability in bleed duct

A cooling apparatus is provided for a turbine engine of the type including an cowling with an outer surface defined by a skin exposed to an external air flow. The cooling apparatus includes at least one heat pipe disposed in the cowling. The heat pipe has a first end thermally coupled with the outer surface of the casing and a second end thermally coupled to a heat source, such that heat from the heat source can be transferred through the heat pipe to the external air flow.

The heat transfer system includes at least one heat pipe disposed in contact with an interior of the casing. A bleed duct is configured for bleeding fan air from the fan bypass duct in a turbofan aircraft engine. The bleed duct includes a tubular conduit having an inlet and outlet at opposite ends. The conduit is configured in flow area for recovering pressure from speeding fan air bled therethrough. A shroud extends forwardly from the duct inlet for suppressing dynamic pressure oscillations inside the conduit without degrading the pressure recovery.

A gas turbine engine exhaust nozzle includes a row of laterally sinuous chevrons extending from an aft end of an exhaust duct. The chevrons have radially outer and inner surfaces bound by a laterally sinuous trailing edge extending between a base of the chevrons adjoining the duct and an axially opposite apex of the chevrons. Each chevron has a compound arcuate contour both axially and laterally, and the sinuous trailing edge of the chevrons further compounds the arcuate configuration of each chevron.

A pulse detonation system for a gas turbine engine having a longitudinal centerline axis extending therethrough, the pulse detonation system includes an air inlet duct in flow communication with a source of compressed air, the air inlet duct including at least one port formed therein for permitting compressed air to flow therethrough, a fuel injector mounted to the air inlet duct in circumferentially spaced relation to each port, and a device mounted to the air inlet duct in circumferentially spaced relation to each fuel injector for initiating a detonation wave. A rotatable ring member is also positioned in coaxial relation around a portion of the air inlet duct, with the ring member including at least one stage of detonation disposed therein. Accordingly, a detonation wave is produced in each detonation stage and combustion gases following each detonation wave create a torque which causes the ring member to rotate. Each detonation stage in the ring member further includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced detonation ducts extending tangentially from an inner surface of the ring member, wherein the detonation ducts are aligned with each port, the fuel injector and the initiation device in a predetermined timing and sequence so that detonation waves are produced therein.

A method of assembling a gas turbine engine includes coupling an inner engine casing to an outer engine casing such that an annular flow path is defined therebetween, coupling a plurality of circumferentially-spaced support struts between the inner and outer casings, and coupling a plurality of circumferentially-spaced outlet guide vanes within the flow path upstream from the support struts, such that a first circumferential spacing is defined between a first guide vane and a second guide vane, and a second circumferential spacing is defined between the second guide vane and a third guide vane. The guide vanes are arranged such that the second guide vane is between the first and third guide vanes and the second circumferential spacing is different from the first circumferential spacing.

Methods and apparatus for assembling gas turbine engines

A substantially tubular body includes an open first end adapted for connection to a ventilator. The body further includes an open second end opposite the first end and adapted for connection to an endotracheal tube. An injection tube has a primary end and a secondary end. A pre-pierced, self-sealing injection port is disposed at the primary end of the injection tube and is adapted for insertion of the needle there-through and into the injection tube. The secondary end is connected to the body between the first end and the second end, whereby medication delivered through a needle inserted through the primary end will flow through the injection tube, into the body, then into the endotracheal tube, and will be atomized into a patient's lungs when the ventilator forces air through the endotracheal tube.
