Methods and apparatus provide for: a first DC bus operating to support a first DC voltage potential and for connecting to a DC input of a motor driver inverter circuit; a motor emulator circuit operating to emulate a polyphase motor and including polyphase output terminals for connecting to a polyphase output of the motor driver inverter circuit; a second DC bus operating to support a second DC voltage potential to a DC input of the motor emulator circuit; and a bi-directional DC-DC power supply coupled between the first and second DC busses, and operating to both: (i) add voltage potential to the first DC voltage potential to produce the higher, second DC voltage potential on the second DC bus, and (ii) subtract voltage potential from the second DC voltage potential to produce the lower, first DC voltage potential on the first DC bus.

Methods and apparatus for motor emulation

A system and method for centralized security screening of packages including baggage. The system creates images and data concerning baggage to be reviewed, packetizes the data long with additional identification information, and conveys the data packets to a central screening location. All analysis of the baggage information is accomplished in a centralized way with risk assessments being provided to each image. Upon sensing of a package or baggage of concern, alerts may be sent to the screening location for action. Artificial intelligence tools are used to pre-screen images to assist with workload assignment.

System and method for centralized security screening

An apparatus includes a driver circuit including electronic switches operable to deliver voltage and current to a polyphase motor; and a control circuit operable to provide driver control signals to the driver circuit to commutate the electronic switches, the control circuit (i) producing the driver control signals using a first pulse width modulation (PWM) mode when the polyphase motor produces a substantially non-zero acceleration torque; and (ii) producing the driver control signals using a second PWM mode when the polyphase motor produces a substantially zero acceleration torque.

Methods and apparatus for providing a dual voltage inverter

A system and method for cleaning an optical device in a hostile environment. A camera system is mounted in a protective mounting structure which may be unitary or comprise layers of material. The camera lens is covered by a scratch resistant cover and is cleaned by user operated bursts of air when debris obstructs the view of the camera. Debris is blown out of the aperture of the unit. When water collects on the lens cover, it is drained by a channel that also provides air via a venturi effect when air is blasted over the lens cover during cleaning.

System and method for protecting and clearing the lens of an optical surveillance device operating in a hostile environment

A rotating machine which includes a stator having a number of field winding slots, a number of field windings disposed in each of the field winding slots, at least two of the field windings have an outer jacket; and a number of conductive wires disposed within and enclosed by the outer jacket such that longitudinal passages are defined between the conductive wires. A pump circulates a coolant into and from the rotating machine through the longitudinal passages. Preferably, the rotating machine includes a housing that has a cavity for acceptance of the stator therein. The housing and stator define and second plenums at first and second ends of the stator. The coolant enters the rotating machine into the first plenum and exits the rotating machine from the second plenum.

Methods and apparatus permit: monitoring a level of a DC source that is used to provide an operating DC voltage to a control circuit and to provide DC bus voltage to a driver circuit for a polyphase motor, the control circuit being of a type that senses signals in windings of the polyphase motor to determine a rotor position thereof and to maintain synchronization therewith; converting kinetic energy of the polyphase motor into a secondary DC source when the level of the DC source has fallen and reached a threshold; and regulating a voltage level of the secondary DC source such that it is operable to provide the operating DC voltage to the control circuit, and such that the control circuit is capable of maintaining synchronization with the polyphase motor while the DC source remains substantially at or below the threshold.

An electronic motor control system includes a brushless DC machine having an armature and a stator with at least three phase windings, a commutation circuit including a DC power supply and switching devices associated with the windings to supply current two selected pairs of the windings and anti-parallel unidirectional current devices which provide current paths to dissipate energy stored in each windings after the supply of current through the associated switching device has terminated, a programmable commutation logic circuit responsive to the current signals in the windings for providing switching signals to the commutation circuit to cause rotation of the armature, a current sensor in circuit with the power supply for sensing the supply current and producing current signals, a controller responsive to the current signals, an additional unidirectional current device connected between each winding and the power supply, the direction of conduction therethrough being opposite to that of the first-mentioned unidirectional current devices and a switch for interrupting the connection between the additional unidirectional current devices and the power supply.

A motor controller includes: a driver stage operable to provide voltage and current to a plurality of induction motors over a single power bus; and a control unit operable to monitor the current drawn from the driver stage and cause one or more of the induction motors to operate in a regenerative mode to supply current to at least one other of the induction motors when the current drawn from the driver stage exceeds a threshold.

Apparatus and method for driving a plurality of induction motors

A throttle/brake control system has a first member, a second member and a mount for mounting the members for relative movement on either side of a home position, the members being biased relatively to that home position. A variable resistor track having an end is mounted to the first member along with a conductive power track having a gap. A conductive wiper is mounted to the second member opposite the first member, the wiper being arranged to slide along both the resistor track and the power track when the first and second members are moved relatively away from the home position and to repose opposite the gap when the first and second members are in the home position.

An energy control unit for a hybrid vehicle is operable to control stored energy of an energy storage unit such that the energy level of the hybrid vehicle is maintained substantially at a desired magnitude. The energy level of the hybrid vehicle is a function of at least: (i) mechanical kinetic energy of the hybrid vehicle; (ii) mechanical potential energy of the hybrid vehicle; and (iii) potential energy of the energy storage unit.

Energy management system for hybrid electric vehicles

A battery equalization circuit for equalizing charge between at least first and second series-connected batteries, where each battery has a positive end and a negative end, with the positive end of the second battery coupled to the negative end of the first battery at a common node, and using: a switching circuit connectable to the positive end of the first battery at a positive node and the negative end of the second battery at a negative node; a transformer having first and second magnetically coupled windings, each with a first end defining a polarity of the winding and a second opposing end; and a transformer reset circuit coupled from the windings of the transformer to the positive and negative nodes. The switching circuit acts to simultaneously couple the first and second windings in parallel with the first and second batteries, respectively, in the same polarity such that a charge is transferred between the first and second batteries as a function of a charge imbalance therebetween. The transformer reset circuit couples one of the first and second windings in parallel with one of the first and second batteries in an opposite polarity to direct reset current from the transformer to that battery to decrease the charge imbalance therebetween.

Magnetically coupled autonomous battery equalization circuit

A power converter comprises a power transformer having a primary winding and a secondary winding flux coupled to the primary winding, input terminals for receiving an input voltage, and output terminals for providing an output voltage. A power switching arrangement comprising two pairs of switching devices arranged in a bridge configuration has a corresponding duty cycle which is selectable so as to cause the power converter to manifest different input output transfer characteristics corresponding to buck and boost modes of operation. An inductor having a single winding is coupled between the input terminals and the primary winding through the switching devices. Secondary winding rectification and filtering provides the power supply output. A reset circuit coupled to the output terminal of the single winding inductor and connected to the input terminals provides a current path for discharging the inductor during a predetermined time interval corresponding to that portion of the duty cycle when all of the switching devices are off to enable operation of the power supply in a buck mode of operation.

Extended range boost converter circuit

A polyphase AC-to-AC inverter (300) for driving a polyphase load (50), which may be an unbalanced load, includes a wye-connected AC voltage source (12) having a neutral terminal (312). The source (12) is coupled to a rectifying arrangement (16) for producing direct voltage across a direct-voltage bus (22). A capacitive bridge (24) on the DC bus (22) has a tap (26) connected to the neutral (312) of the source. The capacitive bridge is isolated from the AC source harmonics by a zero sequence inductor (20). The DC bus voltage at the capacitive bridge feeds a polyphase switching bridge (40). The average voltage at the output of the switching bridge is recovered by a low-pass filter (30) connected to the load. The unbalanced load current is conducted through an inductor to the capacitive bridge tap and the source neutral, with the inductor impedance isolating the load neutral from the DC bus. The switching bridge control can introduce triplen harmonics in the output to increase line-to-line output voltage.
