Tabletop cigarette maker

A tray unloader for rod-like articles of the tobacco industry includes a horizontally-movable, slidable carriage supporting an independently-driven tray inverting carrier arranged to pick up an upright full tray from a receiving position and invert it during movement to an unloading position. In the unloading position articles are received directly over opposed horizontal bands having a delivery channel between confronting ends and defining the initial level at which articles are received over most of the width of the tray. Downstream of the channel is a conveyor which operates at a relatively high rate during a first phase of unloading for each tray and at a reduced rate during a second phase, so as to allow controlled emptying of the tray and establishment of the residual level of articles in the channel after completion of unloading of each tray.

Container unloading apparatus

A receiver unit for a pneumatic distribution system for rod-like articles, particularly cigarette filter rods, includes multiple vertically spaced devices (10) each of which receives axially moving rods and transfers them into a transversely-moving stream, the streams from the devices extending in different directions and being subsequently combined in a common junction zone (38, 46) to form a combined stream of increased height. Each device may cooperate with an adjacent channel (166) forming reservoir for rods and including detectors (168, 170) controlling conveyance of the transversely moving steam.

Conveyer system for rod-like articles

A filter feed onto a fluted drum has conveyors which convey a stack-like stream of filters into a small reservoir adjacent to the drum. As they enter the reservoir, the filters are deflected upwards by a deflector plate so that the thrust by the conveyors does not produce a direct pressure of filters onto the drum. Instead, the filters are fed onto the drum by gravity after passing over the plate. A pivoted sensor plate over the reservoir controls the speed of the conveyors.
