Polyurethane foams that are hydrophilic but nonetheless have low compression sets are made from a combination of MDI and TDI prepolymers, water, and a polymer polyol. The foams optionally are made incorporating a phase change material in the foam formulation. The phase change material does not require encapsulation.

Hybrid foam formulations

Recovery times of flexible polyurethane foams are increased by treatment with a pressure sensitive adhesive. An emulsion or dispersion of the adhesive in an aqueous carrier liquid is impregnated into the foam, with subsequent removal of the carrier. This invention is of special interest when the glass transition temperature of the starting foam is 16° C. or lower.

Viscoelastic foam with slow recovery time

Flexible polyurethane foams are made by reacting a hydrophilic quasi-prepolymer, water and a polymer polyol in the presence of a silicone surfactant and an ethylene oxide/higher alkylene oxide block copolymer. The foams exhibit desirably low densities and compression sets, and have good thermal and moisture-wicking properties. The foams are useful in bedding and other comfort applications in which they are exposed to body heat and bear at least a portion of the weight of the user. The thermal and moisture wicking properties contribute to perceived comfort for the user.

Moisture-curable resin compositions include a mixture of one or more polysilylated of ethers and one or more polyether monosilanes. The polyether monosilanes have one hydrolysable silane group per molecule, and the hydrolysable silane group has at least two hydrolysable substituents. The polyether monosilane is an effective plasticizer and viscosity reducer. Despite the presence of the polyether monosilane, the resins compositions cure to form cured sealants having useful tensile and elongation properties.

Single-component moisture curable silane sealant plasticized with hydrolysable polyether monosilanes

An alkylene oxide mixture containing greater than 50% by weight ethylene oxide is continuously polymerized in the presence of a double metal cyanide polymerization catalyst and certain magnesium, Group 3-Group 15 metal or lanthanide series metal compounds. The presence of the magnesium, Group 3-Group 15 metal or lanthanide series metal compound permits the polymerization to be performed continuously without premature deactivation of the double metal cyanide catalyst.

Embodiments of the invention provide for polyurethane-based sealants. The sealants include a reaction product of a reaction system which includes at least one isocyanate, and at least one polyester polyol. The polyester polyol includes a reaction product of a polyester reaction mixture which includes one or more hydrophobic monomers, one or more organic diacids or methyl esters thereof, and one or more diols.

Polyurethane based insulated glass sealant

Flexible polyurethane foams are made using certain hydrolysable silane compounds in the foam formulation. The hydrolysable silane compounds contain at least one isocyanate-reactive group and at least one hydrolysable silane group. The presence of the hydrolysable silane compound in the foam formulation leads to improved tensile, tear and elongation properties without an adverse effect on other important foam properties such as resiliency and hysteresis loss.

Method for preparing flexible polyurethane foam with hydrolysable silane compounds

A two-component curable adhesive or sealant composition is provided. The first component may comprise a mixture of at least one polyol selected from the group comprising a polyester polyol, a polyester-polycarbonate copolymer polyol, and combinations thereof, a resin, and optionally a solvent. The second component may comprise a prepolymer obtained by reacting a polyester-polycarbonate copolymer polyol which is the reaction product of a polyester polyol which is the reaction product of one or more organic acids, and one or more glycols having a functionality of two or more and one or more polycarbonate polyols, at least one organic polyisocyanate component, and at least one chain extending agent and optionally a solvent. Alternatively, the first component may comprise a polyester-polycarbonate copolymer polyol, a resin, and optionally a solvent. The second component may comprise a polyisocyanate curative and optionally a solvent. The cured adhesive exhibits improved hydrolytic properties while maintaining excellent processability and adhesive properties.

Ester carbonate polyols for hydrolytically stable adhesives

Moisture curable compositions including silylated polymers and methods for producing the same are provided. A two component moisture curable system for producing a cured or cross-linked silylated polymer having improved compression set properties is provided. The two component system comprises a first formulation and a second formulation. The first formulation comprises a silylated polymer, water, and filler and the second formulation comprises the silylated polymer, a curing catalyst comprising at least one Br&#xf8;nsted acid, and a moisture scavenger. The final cured formulation may have a compression set, determined by ASTM D395 or ISO 815-1, of less than 100%, and in some examples less than 50% and in some examples less than 15%. This demonstrated improvement in compression set not only allows the silylated polymers to be used in applications where cyclic loads are applied but also enhances product durability.

Methods of producing a composition comprising a crosslinkable silane-terminated polymer having at least one crosslinkable silyl group in each molecule are provided. The method may comprise providing a polymer having at least one unsaturated group and at least one alcohol hydroxyl group in each molecule and having a number average molecular weight between about 100 and about 5,000, adding to the polymer a compound having a hydrogen-silicon bond and a crosslinkable silyl group in each molecule and a hydrosilylation catalyst to thereby carry out a hydrosilylation reaction to form a composition comprising hydrosilylated polymers, wherein the hydrosilylation reaction has a hydrosilylation efficiency greater than 50% as determined byH-NMR, capping the hydrosilylated polymers by adding the hydrosilylated polymer to at least one isocyanate at an index of between about 100 and about 250, and reacting the isocyanate capped hydrosilylated polymer with a polyol having a nominal functionality of at least 2 to form the composition comprising a crosslinkable silane-terminated polymer.

Process for making low viscosity, fast curing silane terminated polymers

Elastomer composites are prepared by wetting particles of a natural or synthetic rubber with a liquid one-component moisture-curable resin composition and then exposing the wetted particles to moisture to cure the resin composition. The moisture-curable resin composition comprises (a) an isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymer having an isocyanate content of from 0.5 to 12% by weight and (b) from 1 to 30%, based on the combined weight of components (a) and (b), of an epoxide or lactone compound having a molecular weight of from about 70 to about 1000 and which is miscible in the prepolymer at the relative proportions thereof that are present. In addition, the composition contains no more than 0.1% by weight of compounds having a primary or secondary amino group.

Reactive isocyanate-terminated prepolymers for binder applications

Embodiments of the invention provide for a method of producing a silylated polyoxyalkylene polymer having at least one crosslinkable silyl group and at least one hydroxyl group in each molecule. The method comprises providing a polyoxyalkylene polymer having at least one unsaturated group and at least one alcoholic hydroxyl group in each molecule, wherein the polyoxyalkylene polymer includes an impurity double metal cyanide complex mixed therein, and wherein the polyoxyalkylene polymer has not been treated with a metal-coordinating compound; and adding to the polyoxyalkylene polymer a compound having a hydrogen-silicon bond and a crosslinkable silyl group in each molecule and a hydrosilylation catalyst to thereby carry out a hydrosilylation reaction, wherein the hydrosilyation reaction is performed in an absence of a metal-coordinating compound.

Methods for producing crosslinkable silyl group-containing polyoxyalkylene polymers

A copolymer-filled crosslinkable silane-terminated polymer having at least one crosslinkable silyl group in each molecule is provided. The copolymer-filled crosslinkable silane-terminated polymer is the reaction product of a copolymer-filled polyol and an isocyanate capped hydrosilylated polymer. The isocyanate capped hydrosilylated polymer is the reaction product of at least one isocyanate and a hydrosilylated polymer. The hydrosilylated polymer is the reaction product of a polymer having at least one unsaturated group and at least one alcoholic group in each molecule and a compound having a hydrogen-silicon bond and a crosslinkable silyl group in each molecule. The copolymer-filled crosslinkable silane-terminated polymers exhibit improved modulus and tensile strength properties while maintaining elongation properties.
