A linear propulsion machine and system () is disclosed that includes a stator () having a plurality of teeth () and a mover () moveable in a linear direction along the stator (). The mover may include a plurality of spaced apart ferromagnetic strata (), a plurality of slots (), a plurality of wire coils (), and a plurality of magnet layers (). Each of the slots () may be adjacent to at least one of the strata (). Each coil () may be disposed in a slot (). Each magnet layer () may be sandwiched between strata () and disposed inside one of the plurality of coils (). Each coil () is disposed perpendicularly to the direction of magnetic flux of the magnet layer () around which the coil () is wound. In an embodiment, the teeth () or the magnet layer () may be disposed at an angle.

Systems and methods for operating a hoist and hook assembly may determine a position of a target using a position sensor. A hook assembly may be positioned in response to the position of the target as detected by the position sensor. Positioning the hook assembly may include articulating a boom coupled to a hoist, using one or more local thrust sources on the hook assembly, and/or moving an airframe relative to the position of the target.

Three-dimensional models of static airport structures located within the region of an airport taxiway are provided. Rendered image data of the region of the airport taxiway if formed based on the retrieved three-dimensional models of the static airport structures. Data indicative of locations of dynamic objects within the region of the airport taxiway is also provided. Symbols identifying the dynamic objects within the region of the airport taxiway are mapped into the rendered image data at the locations indicated by the provided data. The rendered image data is sent to a display device configured to display the rendered image data.

Method and system for rendering and displaying a perspective view of aircraft taxi operation

Apparatus and associated methods relate to coordinating guided-missile targeting among multiple guided missiles using inter-missile optical communications. An inter-missile communications channel is optically established with a first guided missile illuminating a first target within a scene aligned along a first missile axis, and a second guided missile receiving the illumination reflected by the first target. By illuminating the first target within the scene, the first guided missile designates the first target. The second guided missile can be configured to navigate to the designated first target or to select a second target not designated by the first guided missile. In some embodiments, the second guided missile can be configured to illuminate its selected second target so as to designate the selected second target and to communicate the designation to other guided missiles. By facilitating communications among a plurality of guided missiles, missile targeting can be coordinated during a flight portion of a guided-missile operation.

The systems include a power source provided within the aircraft and a first PDU provided within the aircraft. Apparatus and associated methods relate to controlling an explosive burst event of a ballistic ordnance, based on a ground surface topography mapped by a phased-array LIDAR system. The ground surface topography is mapped using an integrated photonics LIDAR system configured to: generate a beam of coherent light; non-mechanically steer a beam of coherent light over a solid angle about an ordnance axis; and detect the beam reflected from the ground surface. The integrated photonics LIDAR system is further configured to map the ground surface topography, based on a functional relation between an angle of the beam and a time difference between generating the beam and detecting the beam reflected from the ground surface. A timing and/or direction of the explosive burst can be controlled, based on the calculated ground surface topography, so as to advantageously realize a desired effect of the explosion.

A method of making a hoist cable capable of continuous resistance monitoring includes applying an electrically-insulating material to at least one strand of a wire rope such that a length of the strand is electrically insulated and an end of the strand is electrically conductive. The end of the at least one strand is joined to other strands of the wire rope such that at least two strands are electrically connected at a free end of the wire rope. A method of inspecting the hoist cable includes transmitting a first electrical signal through a first strand from a hoist drum to a free end of the wire rope and receiving the first electrical signal through a second strand at the hoist drum, the first and second strands being electrically connected at the free end. Using the first electrical signal, the resistance of the wire rope is calculated.

The first sensor may be disposed in proximity to a drive component of the elevator system and configured to detect a change in position of the drive component. The processing circuit may be configured to receive a first data signal from the first sensor corresponding to the change in position of the drive component and generate a feedback signal for controlling the motor based on the first data signal.
