In a printing system where ink from an applicator roller is applied to a form roller in rotational contact with a plate cylinder, methods of washing up after printing in which methods the form roller is disengaged from the plate cylinder and a subtractive roller system removes a mixture of residual ink and ink solvent from the form roller and applicator roller. In preferred embodiments, the press drive is stopped during wash-up and the form roller is independently driven.

Methods for applying ink and washing-up after printing

A printing system is disclosed including an inking system with a single form roller for applying ink to a printing cylinder. Ink is applied to the form roller by an applicator roller having a surface with an array of interconnected wells and a variable speed drive. The form roller and plate cylinder are rotated at the same rpm while the speed of the applicator roller is varied to vary the amount of ink applied to the plate. A variable speed subtractive roller system removes excess ink from the form roller and returns the ink to a common reservoir. For wash-up, the press drive and form roller are disengaged and the inking system is rotated by an inker roller drive while wash-up fluid is applied to the inking system.

Inking systems for printing presses

A tape containing a supporting substrate and a magnetic layer coated thereover. This tape can be selected for thermal fusing processes where the coating, after heating of the tape which is in contact with a nonmagnetic image, transfers into the image and renders it magnetic. The corrected image can then be selected for MICR processes and devices.

Magnetic tapes and processes

A thermal ink jet printer that prints onto thermal adhesive binding tape includes a tape feeding adapter that enables the feeding of tape into and out of the printer. The adapter includes a base support member for supporting a plurality of tapes in a substantially horizontal position for feeding into the printer and two tape guide members positioned orthogonally and centrally of the base support member for guiding the tapes into and out of the printer. Two support and guide members are connected to and extends orthogonally with respect to the two tape guides members for receiving and supporting the tapes between the two tape guides members and above the base support member after the tapes have exited the printer.

Adapter for ink jet printing onto adhesive binding tape

A low cost and efficient system for magnetic ink character recognition provides a magnetic image over a non-magnetic toned image which can be an on-line or off-line component of an imaging apparatus. Magnetic ink is applied to selected characters from a thin film that includes a magnetic media by utilizing a heater member to promote release of the magnetic ink to the previously toned characters.

Application of MICR media to xerographic images

An automatic dampening system for a lithographic printing press applies a fountain solution to the printing plate on a plate cylinder through the inking rollers. The dampening system has a first roller partially immersed in the fountain solution and a second roller contacting the first roller. The outer surface of the second roller is rotatively coupled to the outer surface of one of the inking rollers such that the rotation of the inking roller will rotate the second roller and the first roller. A bridge roller may be used to bridge any gap between the second roller and the inking roller to maintain the rotative coupling between the rollers. The first and second rollers have outer layers made of elastomeric materials which have a hardness such that a pressure indent is formed in at least one of the outer layers of the rollers at the nip between the first and second rollers and such that the second roller can be rotatably driven by the inking roller. The pressure between the first and second rollers is adjustable to both regulate the size of the pressure indent at the nip between the first and second rollers and to regulate the differential speed between the second roller and the inking roller. By adjusting the pressure between the first and second rollers, the amount of fountain solution that is mixed in with the ink can be controlled.

Automatic dampening system for lithographic printing press

A direct electrostatic printing (DEP) device is utilized for printing wrong reading images on a transparent substrate. An adhesive coating on the transparent substrate precludes toner bounce during printing and enables the transparent substrate to be affixed to a substrate such as an envelope such that the wrong reading images are right reading.

Direct electrostatic printing apparatus and method for making labels

An object of the invention is to provide a method of metering to a printing plate (P). An applicator roller (312), which receives ink from a pick-up roller (310), is positioned in pressure indented relation with a metering roller (12). The surface speed of metering roller (12) is varied to meter the ink to roller apparatus which supplies the ink to printing plate (P).

A method and apparatus for recovering the residual image from an electrostatic recording surface in an electrostatic copying system which is accomplished by presenting a wiping element in pressure contact with the residual image on the recording surface whereby the residual image is substantially removed therefrom, moving a conductive member in close proximity to the toner particles being removed from the recording surface, applying a DC voltage opposite in polarity to that of the toner particles and of sufficient magnitude to the conductive member whereby the toner particles are attracted onto the surface of the conductive member, and continuously removing the toner particles from the conductive member into a collection zone for reuse in the copying system.

Method and apparatus for removing a residual image in an electrostatic

A copying system wherein a master of the document to be copied, such as a book, is electrostatically prepared on a copy substrate material in the form of a fanfolded web. The master bearing web is then used with an electrostatic type copier to produce the copies desired, the master bearing web being recycled the number of times required to produce the number of books desired. Each book may be segregated to permit subsequent binding where desired.

Electrostatic reproduction method and apparatus

A copying system wherein a document master such as a page of a book, is electrostatically prepared on a photosensitive material in serial form as, for example, fanfolded web. The web bearing the masters is then used with an electrostatic type copier of a type adapted to automatically handle fanfolded material. The ends of the master bearing web may be joined together to form an endless loop to enable the masters to be recopied in sequence the number of times required to produce the number of book copies desired.

Electrostatic master making apparatus

An original and a heat sensitive member are inserted as a sandwich into a copying machine and fed past a combined imaging and transfixing or fusing station where radiation is applied to the sandwich to thermally impart a latent image of the original to the heat sensitive member. Thereafter, the original is separated from the heat sensitive member and ejected from the machine. The heat sensitive member on the other hand, continues onwardly to a developing station where toner particles are applied to develop the latent image. Next, the heat sensitive member loops back towards the imaging and transfixing station, and a copy medium is brought into engagement with the developed image. The copy medium and the heat sensitive member are then passed into the imaging and transfixing or fusing station. There, the developed image is transfixed (transferred and fused) to the copy medium by applying heat to the sandwich subsequently the sandwich is discharged from the machine, and the operator then separates the copy medium from the heat sensitive member to obtain his copy. Alternatively, the transfixing step may be omitted in favor of fusing the developed image directly to the heat sensitive member at the imaging and transfixing or fusing station.
