In certain embodiments, a device is configured to be compressed and inserted into the distal end of an endoscope. The delivery device can be configured to deliver the delivery catheter to the site of one or more fistulas in the wall of a body cavity or lumen within a patient. The delivery catheter is configured to deliver the device to the site of the one or more fistulas. The device is configured to expand at the site of the one or more fistulas and substantially seal the fistula in one or more directions. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the device is coated with and/or constructed of biocompatible material. In some configurations, the device is configured to be implanted for an extended period of time or even permanently. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the device is constructed of biodegradable, dissolvable and/or bioabsorbable material.

Systems and methods for treating fistulas in the lung and trachea

A tool for manipulating a foreign body (e.g., a deployed medical device) can include an operative portion. The operative portion can be used to move the foreign body in the proximal and/or distal directions with respect to the removal/repositioning tool and/or the tissue surrounding the foreign body. In some embodiments, the tool can include a compressing portion that can be used to compress the foreign body as the foreign body is pulled by the operative portion in the proximal direction. The tool can further include a sleeve that can be used to transition the operative portion and/or compressing portion between an opened configuration and a closed configuration. In some embodiments, the tool can be used in conjunction with an endoscope to navigate the tool to the site of a foreign body within the body of a patient.

Medical devices and systems for manipulating foreign bodies and methods of using the same

Systems and devices for minimally invasively treating an air leak in a lung comprise the steps of detecting an air leak in a lung; locating an airway in fluid communication with the air leak, introducing a bronchoscope into a patient's airway to a position adjacent the target section and occluding an airway upstream of the air leak for a period of time. The airway occlusion device is preferably removed after the air leak has substantially permanently healed. The occluding device may be a one-way valve. The occluding device may also comprise strut members and anchors that penetrate an airway wall.

Bronchoscopic repair of air leaks in a lung

A device according to an aspect of the invention includes an air escapement conduit having an inlet port providing air communication with a chest cavity and an outlet port providing air communication with a vacuum source, the conduit allowing an air flow from the inlet port to the outlet port in response to a pressure differential between the ports, and a detector responsive to the air flow that provides a signal related to the air flow. The device may include an indicator device operable to provide evacuation information in response to the signal. The air escapement conduit may include a bubble chamber or a valving mechanism. The detector may be a pressure differential sensor operable to detect a difference in air pressure between the inlet port and the outlet port, and generate a signal related to the difference.

Automated provision of information related to air evacuation from a chest cavity

Methods and systems for minimally invasively treating an air leak in a lung comprise the steps of detecting an air leak in a lung; locating an airway in fluid communication with the air leak, introducing a bronchoscope into a patient's airway to a position adjacent the target section and occluding an airway upstream of the air leak for a period of time. The airway occlusion is preferably removed after the air leak has substantially permanently healed. The method can also include the injection of a substance into the airway on a distal side of the occlusion.

The invention provides a device for measuring an inside diameter of a body lumen, such as an air passageway. The device includes a flexible catheter having an inflation lumen, a fluid dispenser in fluid communication with the inflation lumen and operable to communicate a measurable fluid volume change with the inflation lumen, and an expandable member in fluid communication with the inflation lumen and having a known relationship between volume and a changeable transverse dimension, the transverse dimension being changeable in response to fluid volume changes of the fluid dispenser and arranged for placement adjacent to opposing portions of an interior wall of the air passageway. The expandable member may be dimensioned for transoral placement into the air passageway, and may comprise a balloon that includes a complaint material.

Device and method for measuring the diameter of an air passageway

A lung constriction device and method provide lung air leak suppression or lung volume reduction. The lung constriction device includes a jacket of flexible material. The jacket is configured to cover at least a portion of a lung. The jacket is further configured to receive the lung portion as it is drawn therein. The jacket may be expandable and held in an expanded condition as the lung tissue is drawn into the jacket. Thereafter, the jacket is permitted to collapse about the lung portion to constrict the lung portion. The jacket may alternatively be nonexpandable. As the lung tissue is drawn into the jacket, it will collapse. Once disposed in the jacket, the jacket constricts the lung tissue to provide leakage suppression or lung volume reduction. The jacket may further be severable so that after the lung portion is drawn into the jacket, the jacket may be severed to section the lung portion.

Lung constriction apparatus and method

A atrial tracking cardiac stimulator for detecting atrial activations of a heart through an atrial lead associated with at least one of the atria of the heart and delivering ventricular pacing pulses to the heart through a ventricular lead associated with at least one of the ventricles of heart. The stimulator includes a pulse generator including an output stage which delivers a pacing pulse to the ventricular lead responsive to a conducted atrial activation. A sensor is coupled to the atrial lead for detecting atrial activations. A rejectory processor times rejectory time periods responsive to detected atrial activations. The refectory processor further provides a conducted atrial activation to the pulse generator when a detected atrial activation occurs outside of a rejectory time period.
