An ultrasound imaging system combines successive images of a time series to produce high-resolution ultrasound. A piecewise registration process and deemphasizing of high-frequency spatial components may be used to aid in the combination process. A high-definition image may be obtained with or separately from this process by combining different images obtained with different ultrasound frequencies. The images are weighted to accentuate the contribution of high-frequency ultrasound data at the leading edge of imaged structure.

A method for equalizing data and systems utilizing the method. The method of this invention for equalizing (by shortening the channel response) data includes minimizing a function of the data and a number of equalizer characteristic parameters, where the function utilizes cyclic differences of equalized data. Updated equalizer characteristic parameters are then obtained from the minimization and an initial set of equalizer characteristic parameters. Finally, the received data is processed utilizing the equalizer defined by the minimization. The method of this invention can be implemented in an equalizer and the equalizer of this invention may be included in a system for receiving data.

Methods and system for equalizing data in multicarrier receiver systems

The present invention provides a method for generating a timing offset signal applied to a sampling device for recovering a symbol stream from a broadcast signal by characterizing the dispersion of received signal. Preferably, the method includes steps for generating a derivative signal approximating the derivative of the symbol stream, producing a constant representative of an expected symbol stream, and multiplying the derivative signal, the constant, and a signal one of corresponding to and approximating the symbol stream to thereby generate the timing offset signal. A dispersion characterizing receiver and a digital signal processor employed therein are also described.

Method and apparatus for timing recovery based on dispersion characterization and components therefor

An apparatus and method is disclosed for using adaptive algorithms to exploit sparsity in target weight vectors in an adaptive channel equalizer. An adaptive algorithm comprises a selected value of a prior and a selected value of a cost function. The present invention comprises algorithms adapted for calculating adaptive equalizer coefficients for sparse transmission channels. The present invention provides sparse algorithms in the form of a Sparse Least Mean Squares (LMS) algorithm and a Sparse Constant Modulus Algorithm (CMA) and a Sparse Decision Directed (DD) algorithm.

Apparatus and method for using adaptive algorithms to exploit sparsity in target weight vectors in an adaptive channel equalizer

An adaptive antenna system includes N antennae, N forward equalizers operatively coupled to a respective one of the N antennae, and N processors performing a constant modulus algorithm (CMA) to thereby generate N respective control signals which adapt coefficients associated with each respective one of the forward equalizer. Preferably, the adaptive antenna system also includes a sampling device receiving a signal based on the collected output of the N forward equalizers, and a feedback equalizer receiving an output of the sampling device and generating a feedback signal biasing the signal received by the sampling device. If desired, the N control signals are applied to the N respective forward equalizers during a first operating mode, and a selected one of the N control signals is applied to the N forward equalizers during second mode of operation. A method of operating a beamforming antenna system is also described.

Blind dual error antenna diversity (DEAD) algorithm for beamforming antenna systems

A method and apparatus for analyzing and reducing or increasing the dissonance of an electronic audio input signal are realized by identifying the partials of the audio input signal by frequency and amplitude. The dissonance of the input partials is calculated with respect to a set of reference partials according to a procedure disclosed herein. One or more of the input partials is then shifted, and the dissonance re-calculated. If the dissonance changes in the desired manner, the shifted partial may replace the input partial from which it was derived. An output signal is produced comprising the shifted input partials, so that the output signal is more or less dissonant that the input signal, as desired. The method may be used with computerized sound processing equipment, e.g., MIDI-based equipment. The input signal and reference partials may come from different sources, e.g., a performer and an accompaniment, respectively, so that the output signal is a more or less dissonant signal than the input signal with respect to the source of reference partials. Alternatively, the reference partials may be selected from the input signal to reduce the intrinsic dissonance of the input signal.
