A thermal management plate designed to take advantage of the thermally conductive path provided as an integral part of printed circuit board component assemblies. The plate is a shelf-like unit providing both thermal management of electronic assemblies and a mounting arrangement for assemblies. Manufactured of high conductive material, the unit includes a printed circuit board assembly locator, a thermal path and a series of finned surfaces on the front and rear to dissipate heat generated by components.

Thermal management plate

A test probe for use with a chip carrier socket including electrical connections to an external testing device and contacts to engage matching contacts within the chip socket. Tong-like elements grasp the socket to insure both mechanical and electrical integrity of the connections. A slip ring retains the tongs and probe in operated position.

Chip carrier socket test probe

A tool adapted to facilitate the removal of elements such as pin grid arrays, pin grid array sockets, chip carriers, and chip carrier sockets which have been soldered into plated through holes or similar elements of printed wiring cards. A platform is provided mounting two pivotable arms which are used to grip onto the element to be removed while a number of spring loaded posts are compressed to provide connection to the printed wiring card on which the element to be removed is attached. The entire assembly is then placed in a high temperature environment causing the solder to melt at which time the compressed springs, associated with the posts, effectively expand withdrawing the element from the printed wiring card.

Pin grid array removal tool

A two-piece rotating contact zero insertion force connector is used to interconnect printed circuit boards (daughter boards) to backplanes (mother boards), cables to panels or cables to cables. This is accomplished by rotating one-half of the mating contacts relative to the other half to complete the necessary electrical connection. A number of different rotating contact designs are included which could be utilized to implement the overall concept.

Rotating contact ZIF connector

A mounting arrangement for printed circuit boards where electrical and mechanical connection is maintained by the characteristics of the contacts included in the connector. While support is provided for the printed wiring board, no retenion means other than the contacts themselves are employed. The combination of a rigid and a flexible contact inhibits 'walking' of the board due to vibration.

Circuit connector for use with printed wiring board

An assembly to reduce propagation of electromagnetic interference from an equipment enclosure via cable conductors passing out of the enclosure including a capacitor connected to each corresponding conductor and to the enclosure. The capacitors are mounted on an insulating substrate to which is fixed a conductive layer. The capacitors, the support plate, and the conductive layer are contained in a housing attached to the equipment enclosure. A second enclosure is provided, received within the housing and is equipped with a pair of clamps to retain the cables connected to the capacitors from both outside of and within the equipment enclosure.

Electromagnetic interference reducing assembly

A test fixture including deflectable test probes employing flexible members attaching a probe head to a probe shaft, the probe head engaging a locating aperture to deflect the probe head to a printed wiring board test point not in alignment with the test probe axis. The test probe head may be of conical shape and include a plurality of ribs spaced along an outer surface thereof to reduce friction. The probe head may include a tip which is rounded to reduce test point damage or optionally pointed to achieve fine test point contacting resolution.

Test fixture including deflectable probes

A support for a vertically oriented equipment drawer including a plurality of guide rollers and a band roller attached to a lower edge thereof, the guide roller riding in a lower guide track positioned on a supporting equipment floor and the band roller rolling on a band of flexible material layed out in the path of the roller as the equipment drawer is withdrawn from an equipment frame. A tensile force is applied to the band to take up slack and optionally to exert a force on the band roller to permit the equipment drawer to automatically retract back into the equipment frame. A latch is included to engage the band when the equipment drawer is in a withdrawn position to prevent automatic retraction of the equipment drawer. Flat guide rollers engaging an upper guide track are attached to an upper edge of the equipment drawer to prevent lateral movement thereof.

Equipment drawer support

A clamp for cables passing through a panel near an edge thereof including an anvil, a clamping pad and a latch member all positioned on a slideable basis within a slot extending from an edge of the panel inward a predetermined distance. Slots in the anvil interferingly engage and hold cables therein to facilitate assembly of the clamp. Fingers extending from arms of the latch member engage catches in side edges of the slot to lock the latch member in compressive engagement with the pad thereby clamping the cables between the anvil and the pad.

Cable clamp

A low insertion force arrangement for establishing a connection to a printed wiring board of the type including at least one printed wiring board terminal. The arrangement includes a plurality of connection springs including at least one actuator engaging area, and at least one pivot point, contact, and a terminal. A first embodiment includes an actuator engaging area located centrally on the spring between two pivot points which are located between a contact and a connection spring terminal. The actuator is a adapted to sequentially pivot a plurality of connection springs. A other embodiment includes at least one connection spring including a pivot point centrally located on the spring between an actuator engaging area and a second pivot point both of which are located between a contact and a connection spring terminal. In both embodiments the contact is located at one end of each connection spring in alignment with a corresponding printed wiring board terminal. A connector body is provided including a groove adapted to receive and retain a printed wiring board. The connector body includes at least one cavity in which the connector spring is retained. An actuator engages the actuator engaging area to pivot the connection spring about its pivot point to engage the spring contacts with or disengage the spring contacts from the printed wiring board terminal.

Low insertion force connection arrangement

A connector having a base including a lower surface and a plurality of apertures. The apertures each engage a corresponding one of a quantity of terminating pins. A lock member is provided within a channel formed in the base to engage and lock engaged pins between the lock member and an aperture side wall. The combination of locking centrally located pins via the lock member and preventing over engagement of outwardly positioned pins by action of the pins on end walls of corresponding apertures acting to stabilize the connector relative to the pins.

Stabilized array pin connector

A low insertion force connection arrangement for establishing a connection between at least two printed wiring boards each of the type including a plurality of printed wiring board terminals. The connection arrangement includes a plurality of connection springs each including an actuator engaging area located centrally on a side of the spring facing the printed wiring boards and between two pivot points. The pivot points are located on a side of the connection spring facing away from the printed wiring boards and between two contacts. The contacts are located at opposite ends of the connection spring, facing, and in alignment with corresponding ones of the printed wiring board terminals. A connector body is provided including a plurality of grooves each adapted to receive and retain one of the printed wiring boards in alignment with the other, and a cavity, including molded-in fulcrums opposite the spring's pivot points, in which the connection spring is retained by means of spring fingers acting against recesses formed in the cavity walls. An actuator is rotationally positioned to engage the actuator engaging area to simultaneously pivot, or alternatively to sequentially pivot the connection spring about its pivot points and against the fulcrums to contact and wipe the spring contacts across the printed wiring board terminals.

A low insertion force connection arrangement for establishing a connection between at least two printed wiring boards, each including a plurality of terminals. The connection arrangement includes a plurality of connection springs each having a pivot point facing away from the printed wiring boards and located between two actuator engaging areas. The actuator engaging areas face the printed wiring boards and are located between two contacts. The contacts are located at opposite ends of the connection spring facing and in alignment with a corresponding terminal of the printed wiring boards. A connector body is provided including a plurality of grooves each adapted to receive one of the printed wiring boards and a plurality of spring receiving cavities each enclosing a pair of connection springs. Alternate actuators engage the actuator engaging areas to simultaneously pivot all connection springs or in the alternate, sequentially pivot groups of connection springs and disengage the springs from the terminals to thus permit insertion of the printed wiring boards within their respective grooves. The actuators are then disengaged from the actuator engaging areas to permit the springs to simultaneously or in the alternate to sequentially restore and engage the printed wiring board terminals.

A low insertion force connection arrangement for establishing a connection between at least two printed wiring boards each of the type including at least one printed wiring board terminal. The connection arrangement includes at least one connection spring including an actuator engaging area located centrally on a side of the spring facing the printed wiring boards and between two pivot points. The pivot points are located on a side of the connection spring facing away from the printed wiring boards and between two contacts. The contacts are located at opposite ends of the connection spring facing and in alignment with corresponding ones of the printed wiring board terminals. A connector body is provided including a plurality of grooves each adapted to receive and retain one of the printed wiring boards in alignment with the other, and a cavity, including molded-in fulcrums opposite the spring's pivot points, in which the connection spring is retained by means of spring fingers acting against recesses formed in the cavity walls. An actuator is linearly positioned to engage the actuator engaging area to pivot the connection spring about its pivot points and against the fulcrums to engage the spring contacts with the printed wiring board terminals.

An arrangement for positioning a printed wiring board relative to a rigid backplane without the need of support for the printed wiring board from below. Connector pins extend from the backplane and engage connector sockets mounted on the printed wiring board to support the printed wiring board. The printed wiring board is further prevented from falling away from the backplane by a retaining guide assembly which is mounted to the backplane and which engages the front edge of the printed wiring board at its upper end.
