A method for performing video analytics includes receiving at a source end video data including first video data relating to an event of interest. Using video analytics, other than a data compression process, pre-processing of the video data is performed at the source end to reduce the bandwidth requirement for transmitting the video data to below a bandwidth limit of a Wide Area Network (WAN) over which the video data is to be transmitted. The pre-processed video data is transmitted to a central server via the WAN, where other video analytics processing of the pre-processed video data is performed. Based on a result of the other video analytics processing, a signal is generated for performing a predetermined action, in response to an occurrence of the event of interest at the source end.

Video analytics with pre-processing at the source end

A method for performing video analytics comprises capturing video data using a video source disposed at an acquisition end. The captured video data is stored at the acquisition end, and non-adjacent single frames of the captured video data are transmitted from the acquisition end to a server via an IP network. The non-adjacent single frames of captured video data are transmitted one at a time at known time intervals, or a burst of a plurality of non-adjacent single frames is transmitted at another known time interval. At the server, video analytics is performed on a current one of the non-adjacent single frames for detecting an actionable event relative to a previous one of the non-adjacent single frames. In response to detecting an actionable event, a signal for requesting previously stored video data captured between the current one of the non-adjacent single frames and the previous one of the non-adjacent single frames is transmitted to the acquisition end via the IP network.

A method for providing video data for video analytics processing includes capturing a plurality of individual frames of video data, using a video source that is disposed at an acquisition end. A plurality of data-frame-groups is formed, each data-frame-group being associated with a different time period of a plurality of consecutive and non-overlapping time periods. A data-frame-group that is associated with a specific time period comprises individual frames of video data that are captured during that specific time period. Additionally, each data-frame-group comprises relatively fewer individual frames of video data than are captured during the specific time period associated therewith. The plurality of data-frame-groups is transmitted from the acquisition end to a remotely located server via an IP network. In particular, the transmission of successive data-frame-groups is separated one from the other by an interval of time.

A method of locating a first user comprises receiving at a server, via a communication network, video data from a sensor at a predetermined location that is remote from the server. Using a process in execution on a processor of the server, at least one of video analytics, image analytics and audio analytics is performed for determining a presence of the first user at the predetermined location. When a result of the video analytics is indicative of the first user being present at the predetermined location, an indication that the first user is at the predetermined location is retrievably stored within a memory element of the server.

A method is provided in which a tag is affixed to a known individual that is to be identified within a known field of view of an image capture system. The tag is a physical tag comprising at least a known feature. Subsequent to affixing the tag to the known individual, image data is captured within the known field of view of the image capture system, which is then provided to a processor.
