A method is disclosed for generating a quick reference handbook for use on a mobile platform. The method may involve providing a machine-readable medium for use with a processor having a memory. The machine-readable medium may provide instructions for causing the processor to generate a quick reference handbook (QRH). The QRH may be created through the use of checklists organized in accordance with a plurality of grouping schemes that include at least a plurality of: Immediate Action; Systems; and Engine Indication and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) messages. Differentiating criteria may also be used for decisions steps, action steps, and navigation steps within the checklists to thereby enable a user to discriminate between the steps.

Style guide and formatting methods for pilot quick reference handbooks

Aspects of the present invention provide a style guide, formatting methods, and electronic/digital versions for quick reference handbooks (QRH) for mobile platforms. Using one or more of the style guide and formatting methods to create quick reference handbooks can provide improvements in safety through error and workload reduction during non-normal situations, improvements in operator understanding of checklists and information contained in the checklists, reduced customer changes needed to create an airline quick reference handbook, reduced documentation maintenance costs, and/or reduced training costs through standardized format and content.

A computer-based electronic checklist system automatically generates a single electronic checklist upon the detection of two or more control system faults. The checklist contains a plurality of notes to be read by, and action items to be performed by, the operator. The system combines a set of predefined action items for each fault and executes a set of conditional rules that modify the action items to reflect the current state of the control system. The system then executes a set of priority rules to determine the correct order in which the action items of the checklist are to be performed. Once the correct order of the action items is determined, the system executes a set of conflict rules to remove any conflicting or redundant action items in order to provide the operator with a single electronic checklist that is customized to the control system's current operating condition.
