An apparatus and method for web inspection utilize simultaneous capturing of reflected and transmitted light images for real-time merging of same. The reflected light and transmitted light image capturing systems are registered with each other in terms of the down-web and cross-web field being imaged. To allow for the simultaneous acquisition of reflected and transmitted light images, the imaged portion of the web is an unsupported span, and the web is tensioned to prevent sagging. The reflected light and transmitted light image capturing systems each include multiple cameras registered with each other in terms of down-web and cross-web imaging field, and the cameras for the transmitted light image capturing are aligned directly with the light source, which outputs light that is incident on the web at an angle.

Real-time web inspection method and apparatus using combined reflected and transmitted light images

A novel method and apparatus for producing an endless flexible seamed belt using templates is disclosed. A first form of the template is a mask template with a template aperture in the form of a puzzle cut pattern to be used in combination with an excimer laser. The template is placed between the excimer laser source and the belt material to be cut. As the excimer laser traverses the width of the belt, the laser forms a puzzle cut pattern on the belt. A second form of the template is a punch and die having patterned edges in the form of a puzzle cut pattern with extremely small nodes and kerfs. The cutting tolerances of the patterned edges make it necessary to fix the punch with respect to the die so that there is no misalignment of the punch and die between cutting operations. This is accomplished by resiliently fixing the punch to the die, rather than having the punch attached to the force generating assembly as in normal punch and die assemblies. Belt material is positioned between a stock gap between the punch and die and the force generating assembly is activated to provide the cutting force. Once the belt material is cut, the cutting force is removed and the force generating assembly returns to its retracted position. Both types of templates result in very clean cuts without deformation or distortion.

Process and apparatus for producing an endless seamed belt

Unsaturated carbonate adhesives for component seams

A welded seam of an imaging belt comprises a surface roughness. To reduce the surface roughness, the welded seam is treated by compressing a portion of the belt comprising the welded seam and adjacent belt portions and, while compressing, heating the welded seam to a heating temperature near but less than the glass transition temperature of the imaging layer of the belt, then cooling the welded seam to a cooling temperature. The compressing continues while the heating and cooling steps are repeated until the surface roughness is determined to be satisfactory. The process then ceases.

Method for reducing surface roughness in a welded seam of an imaging belt

A hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member supporting end flange including a disk shaped member, a supporting hub extending axially from the disk shaped member and a metal disk coaxially secured to the hub, the disk comprising a plurality of rectangular tabs extending radially from the disk in a direction away from an imaginary axis of the hub for engagement with the hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member upon insertion of the hub and disk shaped member into one end of the hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member. When this end flange is inserted into one end of the hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member, the plurality of rectangular tabs extending radially from the disk engage the inner surface of the hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member.

A reusable photoreceptor assembly has a gear assembly removable from a photoreceptor. A square leaf spring or ring is used to secure and remove the gear assembly to and from the photoreceptor, thereby avoiding damage to both the gear assembly and photoreceptor during the removal of the gear assembly. The undamaged gear assembly and photoreceptor may then be reused.

Method and apparatus for reusing a photoreceptor and gear assembly

A hub for supporting a tube is provided. The hub includes an expandable body adapted to be mounted at least partially in the tube and a resilient urging member. The urging member has at least a portion of the urging member internal to the body to expand the body so that a portion of the body contacts the tube.

An electrostatographic imaging member assembly comprising a hollow electrostatographic imaging drum having a first end and a second end, at least one coating on the drum extending from the first end of the drum to the second end of the drum, the coating having an outer electrostatographic imaging surface, drum supporting hubs mounted on the first end of the drum and the second end of the drum, the drum supporting hubs comprising a disk shaped member comprising a disk shaped segment having an exposed annular landing strip surface parallel to and flush with the electrostatographic imaging surface, the annular landing strip surface having a width of at least about 3 millimeters and having an imaginary axis coextensive with an imaginary axis of the drum. The electrostatographic imaging member assembly may be utilized in electrostatographic imaging apparatus in which the hubs support electrostatographic imaging apparatus subassembly components. The electrostatographic imaging member assembly is fabricated by coating the entire external surface of the substrate and mounting the hubs to the ends of the resulting coated substrate.

Electrostatographic imaging drum having a periphery flush with periphery

An end effector for a robotic assembly for acquiring and manipulating articles having a substantially cylindrical aperture therein. The end effector has a cylindrical gripping portion having radially expandable fingers and a collar portion adapted to bear on the article. When the fingers are inserted into the aperture in the article and expanded the object is gripped over a large portion of the circumference of the aperture. The article is then translated from a vertical to horizontal position. The gripping portion is provided with a flat portion to allow the article to be contacted against a stop for easy withdrawal of the fingers. The entire cylindrical gripping portion is flexibly mounted to the robotic assembly to allow acquisition of an article presented to the gripping portion of the end effector in an off vertical alignment.
