Submicron boron nitride is used as a catalyst for thermally activating polysiloxane resins when uniformly mixed with the resin either using anhydrous acetone for wet mixing or simply hot melt mixing. Boron nitride is also used to coat the fibers using a particulate sizing approach. The coated fibers are used to activate the polymer resin blend. Fabric may be impregnated with the resin to mold high temperature composite laminates from which high temperature, non-metallic gaskets may be cut.

Boron nitride catalyzed polysiloxane resin blend and composite products formed therefrom

A gasket of non-conductive material formed of layers of a ceramic between which is embedded a wire circuit for connecting spark electrodes, high voltage connectors and ground connectors of a spark ignition system. The wire circuit includes small diameter wires surrounding gasket openings for bounding and sealing the edges of combustion chambers defined by cylinders in an internal combustion engine. The small diameter wires are insulated by the high dielectric layers of the gasket as well as by high dielectric wrappings and a sheath of high dielectric material bonded to and within the layers forming to gasket.

A high temperature silicon sealant comprising a combination of high molecular weight, high viscosity silicon oil; a low molecular weight, low viscosity silicon oil; a liquid organo-metallic catalyst; and a submicron boron nitride powder.

High temperature silicon sealant

Oxidation resistant coatings on carbon fibers are provided. Oxidation inhibitor particles are incorporated into a polymeric sizing coating on carbon fibers to protect the fibers from deterioration and erosion due to oxidation of carbon.

Method of applying oxidation resistant coating on carbon fibers

A method for joining a composite material shaft, such as a graphite epoxy or fiber glass driveshaft, to a metal end member is disclosed, wherein said joint is capable of withstanding large ranges of temperature and humidity, can handle high torque and has high resistance to fatigue. The design of parallel grooves on the end of a metallic sleeve concentrically aligned within the shaft is amenable to mass production. The first layer of fibers of the composite material shaft is preferably wound perpendicular to the orientation of the grooves. On the other end of the metallic sleeve is carved a scalloped pattern which facilitates concentric alignment of the sleeve on the tooling mandrel and helps to reduce shear stress between the sleeve and shaft. A method for mass production of shafts with metallic end joints attached employs an elongated spinning mandrel and pre-preg tape wound at high speed.
