A hydrostatic transmission is disclosed comprising a radial ball pump (11) and a radial ball motor (13) wherein the normal journal member (33) may be replaced by an alternative or modified journal member (33'), such that even with a reverse direction of actuation of the displacement control (49), the HST still operates in the forward direction, with no other changes required. The present invention also includes a simplified dump valve member (107) comprising a single, unitary member which may be merely inserted to its assembled position in which a pair of retention portions (123, 135) retain the dump valve, and permit it to pivot about the retention portions from an unactuated position to an actuated position.

Reversible hydrostatic transmission with dump valve

A static, centrifugal two-phase distributor (20) is constructed to distribute two-phase refrigerant equally on a mass basis to conduits (37) of evaporator circuits. The distributor (20) has an upper section (21) defining a swirl chamber (23) with a tangentially arranged inlet (28) and a lower section (25) in which are arranged curved guide vanes (39) on a hub (38) to divide equally to apertures (36) in an end wall (35) of the distributor (20) the liquid and vapor refrigerant phases separated centrifugally in the second chamber (23). The apertures (36) are connected to conduits (37) of the evaporator circuits.

Centrifugal two-phase flow distributor

In order to isolate a corrosive or reactive fluid in the interior of a dynamoelectric machine from contact with the stator assembly, while avoiding leakage or loss of the working fluid and avoiding contamination of the immediate surroundings and the working fluid in a closed cycle system, and ensuring maintenance-free operation for extended periods of time, the dynamoelectric machine includes a composite shielding member disposed between the stator and the rotor. The composite shielding member is formed of a non-conductive non-magnetic material at least in the region defined by the core of the stator and extending beyond the core at both ends thereof at least into the region defined by the winding of the stator. With this arrangement, the composite shielding member is formed of a non-porous ceramic material facing the rotor to prevent fluid migration therethrough and is also formed of a second material integral with the ceramic material for securing the composite shielding member in a fixed position to define a rotor cavity adapted to receive a fluid therewithin in a manner in which the core of the stator is isolated from the fluid in the rotor cavity.

Dynamoelectric machine

In a dynamoelectric machine which includes a rotor and a stator, an integral magnetic isolation and cooling system. A housing is disposed about the machine, the housing being fabricated of magnetically permeable material to define a flux path therethrough. A cooling jacket is sandwiched between the housing and the stator. The cooling jacket has coolant passages therein and is fabricated of non-magnetic material to isolate the flux path between the housing and the stator.

Magnetic isolation and cooling system in dynamoelectric machines

An improved alternating current machine having interdispersed armature windings is disclosed. The AC machine comprises an armature core having a plurality of generally longitudinal slots and a plurality of winding groups. Each of the winding groups comprises a plurality of one-turn coil windings which are series connected to electrically adjacent windings of the winding group. Each winding has two generally parallel side portions disposed in non-adjacent ones of the slots. The side portions are joined at one end by an end turn which extends axially outward from one end of the armature core and each of the side portions have an end connection extending a distance axially outward from the other end of the armature core for connecting to a respective electrically adjacent end connection of its electrically adjacent winding. The winding groups are interdispersed about the armature core such that there are a plurality of fixed distances between the electrically adjacent windings. The end connections extend outwardly from the armature core a plurality of distances, and the distance which each particular one of the end connections extends is proportional to the distance between the particular end connection and its electrically adjacent end connection to which it is series connected.

Compact connections for interdispersed armature winding

A self-scavenging gear box lubrication system is disclosed and includes a gear box housing having at least one gear chamber providing relatively close confirmation with meshing gears rotatably mounted in the chamber. Lubricating fluid is delivered to the chamber for lubricating and cooling the gears. At least one collecting cavity for the lubricating fluid is provided in the housing separate from the gear chamber. A passage communicates between the gear chamber and the collecting cavity for passing fluid from the chamber to the cavity under the influence of centrifugal action effected by rotation of the meshing gears, whereby the fluid can be scavenged from the cavity by an appropriate lubrication pump. The passage is oriented generally tangentially of at least one of the meshing gears, and the passage is of restricted dimensions to provide a positive inlet presure to prevent backflow from the collecting cavity into the gear chamber at all attitudes.

Self-scavenging gear box lubrication system

A compliant gear which includes an inner hub portion, an outer ring gear portion, and a compliant laminate between the hub portion and the ring gear portion. The laminate includes a rigid laminar shim of generally uniform thickness sandwiched between a pair of elastomer layers of generally uniform thickness. The laminar shim and the elastomer layers extend generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the gear.
