A support member for at least one piece of heavy medical equipment in a medical diagnostic station is made of fiber-reinforced plastic, and has a cross section which is longer in one direction than the other. The fiber-reinforced plastic serves as a shell surrounding a molding member, which may be lightweight plastic material, such that the fiber-reinforced plastic bears the loading on the member. The support member may be disposed for adjustable movement along its length by having metal guides received in the rollers of a carriage.

An x-ray examination table comprises a table mounted on a pedestal which has a control box containing control elements for the device. The control box is displaceable in a longitudinal direction to the table so that a physician can easily reach the control elements in the control box given examination in the head area of the patient which is opposite to the position of the pedestal.

The diaphragm plates are individually adjustable in two-dimensional fashion. Semi-transparent diaphragm sections at the edges of the diaphragm plates limiting the radiation are adjustable perpendicular to the respective edge with a lever linkage such that the semi-transparent region becomes larger when the diaphragm is closed. A feedback control unit is present for operation. This feedback control unit has two operating pieces as an operating mechanism, which are displaceable by a user to positions similar to the diaphragm plates, and are electrically coupled to the feedback control unit to cause movement of the diaphragm plates to a position corresponding to the position of the operating plates.

An x-ray diagnostics installation has an adjustable patient support table, with a control box for positioning the table, the control box also being adjustable relative to the table. The control box is attached to a bracket which is mounted in the region of the foot end of the patient support table, and is displaceable via the bracket in a direction parallel to a longitudinal edge of the table.

A patient supporting table comprises a table top which is detachably held on a pedestal at one end. The table top is connected to the pedestal by a plug connection so that it can be detached from the pedestal by simply lifting a free end of the table top to detach a first group of plug connectors and then shifting the table top in a direction toward the free end to disconnect a second group of plug-type connections.

In an exemplary embodiment, an x-ray tube is mounted on a tube support arm carried on a separate tube stand. A layer rod releasably couples with the tube support arm for the purpose of aligning the x-ray tube relative to a displaceable radiographic installation on the underside of the patient support platform. The tube need not always be aligned relative to such radiographic installation, but may be aligned, according to requirements, relative to a second radiographic installation. In order to facilitate such change of alignment, the disclosure provides that the layer rod may be placed in a loosely coupled state relative to the tube support arm, and that it bears coupling surfaces which are capable of being brought into positive locking engagement with the tube support arm to effect automatic reorientation of the x-ray tube (without prior manual alignment of the x-ray tube to the radiographic installation) during recoupling operation. The x-ray examination apparatus is particularly suited for utilization in the case of diagnostic x-ray examination apparatus.
