A task light shelf system provide a task light having an elongated housing with a planar top wall structure that acts as a shelf surface. The housing of the task light has sufficient structural strength to carry loads on the shelf surface and is supported over a task area by means of angle brackets that attach to attachment slots formed in the top wall of the task light. Extended shelf surfaces can be provided by means of insert elements and angle brackets having extended attachment arms, which attach to the extended arms of the angle brackets. The insert elements can be optionally closed channel members to provide wire or cable channels behind the task light.

Task light shelf system

A retaining device held in a compact, lensed, task lighting fixture operates to retain the lens in the fixture and to facilitate the removal of the fixture's fluorescent lamp which is otherwise difficult to access. The retaining device is comprised of a strip of resilient material having a base end mounted in a fixed position within the fixture, a resilient middle strip portion shaped to extend around the base end of the fluorescent lamp, and an outwardly biased distal end extending to contact and retain the lens in the fixture housing.

A lighting fixture is comprised of a housing fabricated in two mating sections which are joined in a manner that produces a reveal in the bottom exterior surface of the housing. A switch, and preferably a slide switch, is mounted to the interior side of the housing such that the switch actuation member, preferably a slide member, projects through a reveal slot so as to accessibly, but unobtrusively, project from the housing's reveal. The switch preferably has multiple operative states corresponding to the different slide positions of the switch's slide member within the reveal.
