Machine for winding paper strips cut from a wide paper web

A rider roller for use in a web-winding machine for processing a web material has grooves arranged in its surface so as to facilitate the transport of entrained air, thus avoiding puckers and wrinkles in the roll of web material which is being wound.

Apparatus for the separate winding of slit webs

In an apparatus for winding a web on a roll 7 supported by two driver rolls 1,2 and including a rider roll 8 bearing on the top of the web roll and mounted for vertical displacement in lateral guides 17, the improvement which comprises two further rider rolls 9 mounted on either side of the web roll and with their axes parallel thereto so that they make contact with the circumference of the web roll only after the latter has attained a predetermined diameter. A corresponding process is described.

There is provided an adhesive tape for the joining of webs, comprising a first tape provided on both its faces with adhesive, second and third cover tapes adhering to the faces of the first tape, and adhesive on the outside of the second cover tape, the adhesive on the outside of the second cover tape being stronger than the adhesive on its inside. The joinder is made by securing the outside face of the second cover tape to a carrier bar, removing the third cover tape, adhering the exposed face of the first tape to the tail end of a first web, removing the second cover tape with carrier bar attached from the first tape which continues to adhere to the web, and then adhering the freshly exposed face of the first tape to the head end of a second web.

Adhesive tape for and method of joining webs

A winding station for webs comprises a plurality of knives disposed side by side and which are laterally displaceable along the width of a web to predetermined positions for slitting the web into a plurality of narrower webs. A guide roller is disposed downstream of the knife and a plurality of pairs of winding frames are disposed in at least two rows in a staggered relationship on opposite sides of the guide roller. The winding frames are laterally displaceable into positions corresponding to the positions of the knives by means of servomotors. The winding frames bear projecting chucks for receiving winding spools thereon and gripper cones over the winding chucks which are expandable radially by axial displacement. A program control effects the positioning of the winding frames to align the gripper cones with the knives. A program control utilizes the information of the sensing of the lateral position of the knives for first effecting the displacement of at least one winding frame of each pair to correct the position corresponding to the associated knives and thereafter effecting the displacement of the other winding frame of each pair against the one winding frame until the winding spool that is to be mounted is gripped by the axially moving and simultaneously expanding gripper cones. As a result of this movement, the lateral position of the gripper cones for some pairs of the winding frames are shifted off center.

Winding station

The application relates to an improvement in a rewinding machine for continuous individual webs of paper cut from a wider web, and including a backing cylinder, a plurality of winding shafts alternately arranged diametrically opposite one another relative to the backing cylinder, a roll on each of the winding shafts, and bearing blocks for each of the rolls, whereby the individual webs contact the backing cylinder and alternate individual webs are taken up on the rolls arranged on the winding shafts on each side of the backing cylinder, the bearing blocks permitting the shafts and rolls to move away from the backing cylinder as the roll diameters increase due to webs wound thereon, all known in the art. In accordance with the invention, a bearing block on one side of the backing cylinder is coupled with a bearing block on the other side of the backing cylinder, the coupled bearing blocks constituting those which define a plane of division between two adjacent individual webs, and means are provided for displacing the coupled bearing blocks along the axis of the backing cylinder, whereby in adjusting the rewinding machine to accept individual webs of different widths by displacement of the bearing blocks on both sides of the backing cylinder, the coupling of the bearing blocks ensures that opposite blocks are properly aligned to define planes of division.
