Detachable electrical plug connection

The flexible printed circuit device, includes at least one hybrid circuit structure having assigned contact areas, a rigid printed circuit board, a flexible printed circuit board portion also having assigned contact areas on one end region thereof and being connected electrically to the rigid printed circuit board, a plurality of bonding electrical conductors, each of the electrical conductors being bonded at one end thereof to one of the assigned contact areas on the at least one hybrid circuit structure and, at the other end thereof, to one of the assigned contact areas on the end region of the flexible printed circuit board portion; and a rigid support, the hybrid circuit structure being mounted on the rigid support. The end region of the flexible printed circuit board portion is fixedly mounted on the rigid support in side-by-side relationship with the hybrid circuit structure. A protective frame is provided enclosing the electrical conductors electrically connecting the assigned contact areas on the hybrid circuit structure and the end region of the flexible printed circuit board portion.

To permit direct attachment of a deceleration sensing element to a printed circuit board or the like, a housing (2) made of insulating material retains therein a flexing or bending piezo-ceramic transducer (4) which is electrically connected to terminals (5) passing through the housing, spaced by standard printed circuit board hole spacings from each other; electrical connection between the piezo-ceramic flexing or bending transducer (4) and the terminals (5) is obtained by an electrically conductive adhesive (6) filled into chambers formed in the housing and extending from both sides of the flexing or bending transducer. The housing is preferably encapsulated by a coating of silicone rubber, and can be inserted into a groove (9) in a support side wall (1) by an externally projecting winged spring (10), and secured therein by an adhesive (8).

Trigger mechanism construction for an automotive passenger restraint

To increase the heat capacity of a heat sink and heat dissipating structure combined with an electrical component, typically a transistor, for example of the TO 220 or SOT 93 type, a heat transferring base plate (3), with the interposition of an insulating, heat conducting foil (6), engages one flat surface of the element (11), and a second heat transferring element (17) is provided, pressed by a spring (24) against the other major surface, or a portion of the component (11). A plastic holder (7) is provided, attached to the base plate (3) for example by snap-in hooks (8), formed with openings to receive the component, and position the component against the base plate while, also, being formed with abutments to position the second heat transferring element which, for example, is block or plate-like. The spring, preferably, is a leaf spring having projecting arms extending, from both sides of a central portion (25), over two adjacently located components (11) and the second heat transferring elements (17) respectively, and engaging the holder (7) to form a subassembly therewith, the subassembly then being riveted, by rivets extending through the spring (24) to the base plate.

Cooled electrical circuit component, particularly switching-type

An electrical connector combination thoroughly sealed against moisture and dirt and resistant to temperature variations and shaking forces consists of a male connector (1) equipped with connector prongs (3) set in a casing (2) and a female connector (10) having corresponding sockets (12) disposed in a casing (13) in which a compressible seal plug (22) is set which surrounds the conductors which are electrically and mechanically affixed to the connector sockets (12). The seal plug 12 is compressed by an assembly of rigid parts including the casing plug (13), a metallic washer (25) and a cap nut (27), the last of which can be screwed tight with a certain torque to clamp the assembly. A sealing effect is exerted on the conductors (11) and the casing plug (13) in a radial direction without exposing the seal plug (22) to rotary movement. A seal ring (9) is seated on a forward section (15) of the socket casing plug (13) extending into the male connector casing (2). This seal ring seals the joint of the connector parts with the help of a connection sleeve acting through a bayonnet lock, without the seal ring being able to yield radially.

Electrical plug-and-socket connector

To permit one-hand operation of engagement and disengagement of separable electrical connectors, for example of multi-terminal connectors in automotive use, the connectors are formed with adjacent side walls fitting within each other; the inner side walls of one part are formed with locking projections extending laterally outwardly and having at least one flat engaging surface extending transversely to unlocking direction, and fitting against a matching engaging surface formed on the side wall of the other part. To permit unlocking, the inner side wall is formed with a projecting fulcrum bead or ridge, the side wall of the other part being extended beyond the fulcrum bead or ridge so that, upon compression of the extending portion over the fulcrum bead or ridge, the side wall of the other part will be resiliently deflected outwardly, thus releasing the engagement surfaces from each other.

Two-part separable electrical connection arrangement

A plurality of threshold switches or comparators, at least two and preferably five to seven are provided to compare actual generator output voltage (u.sub.g) with respect to various threshold levels derived from battery voltage, and normal and abnormal and highly abnormal or excessive voltage conditions. Actual generator voltage is sensed by providing a separate set of rectifiers (14) connected to the generator (10) and providing output voltage signals representative only of the magnetism of the field--remanent or excited--and generator speed, independently of loading and battery voltage, to permit monitoring actual operation of the generator in relation to the connected network and battery. One (76) of the threshold switches or comparators is provided to inhibit energization of the field winding by the voltage regulator (20) if the voltage of the generator, as sensed, exceeds a predetermined level (eg. 18 V in a 12 V system), other threshhold switches providing malfunction indication upon concurrence of either excessive voltage, or undervoltage conditions at various test points within the generator-voltage regulator network system and combination.

Self-contained, particularly vehicular network with malfunction

To provide for simplified and less expensive manufacture without extensive insulation of internal components of a control system with respect to the housing, particularly for electronic ignition and fuel injection control systems, digital and other automotive control electronic systems and the like, a housing (1) of insulating plastic material has a connecting portion (2, 3) integrally formed therewith, which further include, integrally formed therewith, holding and engagement catches and slits (13, 15, 17-23; 62, 69) for a printed circuit board (41) carrying electronic network elements (42) such as transistors, capacitors, resistors, in integrated circuit form, or as discrete elements; and further a cooling device (24, 25; 56; 64; 73) in heat-conductive relationship to a power stage (43; 54; 65; 74) to dissipate heat generated within the power stage, and to transfer the heat over a large area surface connection either to a structural component carrying the entire control unit and/or to a sheet metal cover (49) snapped and crimped over the plastic housing (1) and, in sealed relation, closing off the entire structural unit.

Environmentally protected electronic network structure and housing

To permit elimination of separate exciter diodes of a vehicular three-phase alternator, and yet reliably ensure protection of the vehicular battery and provide an indication of discharge of the battery and hence possible failure of any excitation for the alternator, while additionally providing an indication of possible damage to the battery due to overvoltage conditions, the field of the alternator is separately excited from the battery through a voltage regulator connected to the main switch, and a low-voltage and high-voltage indicator is connected in parallel to the battery, preferably an LED triggered to illumination upon response of one of two threshold sensing circuits which sense undervoltage and overvoltage conditions of the battery beyond a predetermined voltage range.

On-board vehicular electrical power supply system

A multi-phase generator has a separately excited shunt field which is controlled by a voltage regulator. A free-wheeling diode is connected in parallel with the field. The voltage regulator is included in a single, hermetically sealed housing which has a metal base plate forming one terminal of the voltage regulator; two insulated terminals project from the voltage regulator and are sealed, in insulated relation, through the housing, preferably the base plate. Three monolithic semi-conductor integrated circuit (IC) chips are located within the sealed housing, two of them soldered to the base plate so that one of the semi-conductor connections of the chip are directly connected to the base plate, the connection being for the collector of the power transistor and the anode of the free-wheeling diode, the control portion of the voltage regulator being secured to a ceramic plate which is attached to the base plate, other terminals from the voltage regulator are being effected internally, by bonding wires, and to the two externally excessible contacts, so that the entire assembly is simple, readily manufactured, and requires little assembly, labor and time for connection to an alternator structure.

Solid state voltage regulated automotive-type electrical power supply

A free-wheeling diode, a control circuit portion and a power circuit portion which selectively include active semiconductor elements and passive electrical circuit elements, such as diodes and resistors, are all included in a housing having a metallic base, the housing having two lead-through pins sealed therethrough in insulated relation, so that the housing can be readily attached to the generator housing structure, particularly to the brush assembly thereof, and the lead-through pins selectively directly connected to a brush connected to the exciter field of the generator and another connected to the positive output terminal of the generator, thus facilitating overall construction and assembly of the voltage regulator as well as assembly of the voltage regulator with and to the generator.

Voltage regulator structure for automotive-type generators

To prevent failure of solder connections between projecting pins from discrete electrical components, such as power transistors, and printed circuit paths formed on an insulated substrate, the space between the semiconductor and an attached cooling plate in the region of the pin is increased to permit lateral excursion of the pin, without electrical contact with the cooling plate, and thus prevent failure of the solder connection. The space can be increased by, for example, the relieving the thickness of the cooling plate in the region where the pin passes therethrough, or spacers can be inserted between the cooling plate and the insulating board on which the printed circuit is carried, both solutions providing for some flexibility of the mounting and hence deflection of the connecting pin from the semiconductor to the solder connection.

Composite electric circuit structure of a printed circuit and heat

A temperature-sensitive portion of the circuit of a voltage regulator of a vehicular battery charging system is located in or on the battery for simultaneously sensing the battery voltage and the battery temperature so as to provide through a single additional connection the necessary information to the remainder of a voltage regulator which is mounted in the vehicle generator. The temperature-sensitive portion of the voltage regulator components, which may be constituted by a single resistor, can be located in a housing in the connection clamp to the ungrounded terminal of the battery, in the filling cap of a battery cell or in a cavity in the battery case.

Battery temperature compensated battery-charging system

A plug connector is provided with a plurality of electrical contacts. A socket connector is provided with a plurality of electrical contacts corresponding to the electrical contacts of the plug connector. A mounting hook is provided on one of the connectors, and a cooperating holding portion is provided on the other of the connectors. The mounting hook is hooked behind the holding portion for swinging movement of the plug connector relative to the socket connector from a first position to a second position. The mounting hook and the holding portion are disconnectable from each other to permit disconnection of the plug connector from the socket connector. A snap-latch is provided on one of the connectors and a cooperating catch is provided on the other of the connectors. The snap-latch and catch are so positioned that the snap-latch engages the catch with a snap action only when the plug connector is swung from the first position to the second position thereof.
