A levelling machine for levelling or flattening sheet metal or strip includes upper and lower levelling rolls which are arranged offset relative to each other and which are supported over their length by back-up rolls which, in turn, are supported and arranged in roll stands. The levelling machine further includes intermediate rolls for driving the levelling rolls.

Levelling machine for levelling sheet metal and strip

A levelling machine, particularly for levelling sheet steel and strip steel, includes upper and lower levellerg rolls arranged offset relative to each other. The leveller rolls are supported by back-up rolls arranged in roll stands and supported in crossbeams. The back-up rolls support the leveller rolls over the length thereof. At least the upper crossbeam is adjustable by adjusting cylinders for positioning the leveller rolls. The upper roll stand and the upper crossbeam are mounted so as to be tiltable in travel direction of the material being levelled, so that compensating cylinders arranged between the roll stand and the crossbeam facilitate pivoted positions. The tilting points of the upper roll stand and of the upper crossbeam are arranged in several planes located one above the other.

Levelling machine, particularly for levelling sheets and strips

A method and apparatus for leveling of metal sheets conveyed through leveling gaps formed by several adjustable upper and lower leveling rollers and adjusted as a function of the sheet cross-section and the nominal sheet strength is disclosed. After initial maximum deformation, the sheets are subsequently repeatedly bent in alternate directions with a greatly diminishing degree of deformation resulting in an improved operational mode if the leveling range of a leveling machine is expanded toward the thicker metal sheets by a smaller quantity of leveling rollers in engagement, and thus a larger roller pitch, in case of sheet thicknesses exceeding the nominal sheet thickness of the leveling range.

Leveling machine for metal sheet and strip

A leveling machine for steel sheet and strip includes changing cartridges between sets of leveler rolls including support rollers and adjustable crossheads. Each changing cartridge includes three cartridge portions which are connected to each other by means of two intermediate joints. The middle cartridge portion is supported on the corresponding crossheads by means of two spaced-apart rigid supports, so that only the outer cartridge portions can be limited in their pivoting positions by means of adjusting wedges or the like and, for compensating sagging of the crossheads, the leveler rolls must only be subjected to a prebending force in the regions away from the middle cartridge portion.

Leveling machine for steel sheet and strip

A roll stand has a support frame, a pair of similar small-diameter working rolls rotatable about respective vertically spaced axes and defining a workpiece nip receiving a workpiece to be rolled, and a pair of similar large-diameter backup rolls rotatable about respective axes vertically flanking the working-roll axes and each bearing vertically on the respective working roll. These working rolls have ends and each have therebetween an effective axial length equal to at least 1.3 times the effective axial length of the respective backup rolls. Actuators are connected to the working rolls for displacing same axially relative to the backup rolls through an axial distance equal to about their own effective axial lengths between end positions each engaging only about half of the respective backup roll. A selector feeds to and through the stand a group of strips comprised generally of pairs of strips wherein the combined width of the strips of each pair is generally equal to the working-roll width. A controller is connected to the actuator for positioning the working rolls of the stand with their ends at one edge of one of the workpieces of each pair and at the opposite edge of the other workpiece of the pair.

Rolling stand with axially shiftable rolls

A rolling stand includes a frame and a pair of working rolls mounted on the frame centered on and rotatable about respective parallel axes and defining a nip so that a strip can pass in each of a succession of passes forming a single run through the nip so that with each pass the thickness and width of the strip are reduced. The ends of the working rolls project laterally beyond the longitudinal edges of the strip. Respective backing rolls mounted on the frame extending generally the full length of the working rolls are braced toward the nip against the working rolls to urge same against the strip. Tools displaceably mounted on the frame reduce the diameters of the projecting ends of the working rolls several times after respective passes during a single run so that the working rolls only contact the respective backing rolls along a diatance equal generally to the workpiece width. The tools are lathe-type tool bits and respective holders juxtaposed with the end regions and rotatable about respective axes parallel to the respective working-roll axis each carry a plurality of radially projecting and radially and angularly spaced such tools. The holders can be angularly stepped to bring successive tools into engagement with the respective end regions. These holders of each roll are coaxial and axially oppositely displaceable.

Strip-rolling method and apparatus

A cross-cutting shear of the type where the nip formed between the blades travels in the direction of movement of the material being sheared is driven by a single crankshaft. The upper blade is attached to the crank portion of the crankshaft, and the sliding motion of the blade-carrying carriage is provided by cam discs mounted on the crankshaft and acting against rollers in a stationary frame. The crankshaft is journalled at each end in links pivotally attached to the bottom part of the blade carriage. The guide links are free to pivot independently of the blade carriage. By this construction, reaction loadings are prevented from being transmitted through to the stationary housing, when a shearing action is taking place.
