A blade set for a hair cutting appliance includes a stationary blade and a cutter blade. The stationary blade has a blade base and a plurality of teeth extending from the blade base in a longitudinal direction. The teeth are arranged in a series alternating with tooth gaps therebetween, where the tooth gaps define hair entry slots. The teeth have a first side arranged to cooperate with the cutter blade to cut hair and a second side arranged as a skin-facing side. The teeth have processing edges at the first side at their longitudinal extension, where the smoothened processing edges have smoothened edge transitions.

A cutting unit having a blade carrier carrying a cutting blade, and a guard. The guard includes a blade-facing surface engaging the cutting blade at a cut location, a planar guard contact surface for contacting the user's skin, where the guard contact surface is angled with respect to the blade-facing surface, and a guard extender separate from the guard. The guard extender includes a planar extension contact surface cooperating with the guard contact surface to provide an extended contact zone across the guard and the guard extender for contacting a user's skin. The blade-facing surface and the guard contact surface converge towards a tip of the guard, such that a cutting direction extends along the guard contact surface towards the tip. The extended contact zone may provide for improved stability and reliable orientation of the cutting unit for cutting while limiting material use.

Cutting unit

A hair cutting device having a cutting unit, the cutting unit including a blade carrier carrying a cutting blade that has cutting teeth; a guard blade that has guard teeth. The blade is movable along the blade carrier relative to the cutting blade within a guard length range between a first guard position corresponding to a shortest hair cutting length of the cutting unit and a second guard position corresponding to the longest hair cutting length of the cutting unit. The blade carrier includes a stop configured to prevent movement of the guard blade past the first guard position and outside of the guard length range, thereby preventing the cutting length from being below the shortest cutting length.

A guide unit is formed between the movable blade and the stationary blade, where the blades engage each other. The guide unit includes longitudinally spaced, laterally extending guideways, each defined between a stationary blade guide surface and a movable blade guide surface that overlap each other. Rolling elements are arranged at the guideways between the guide surfaces. The guide surfaces have a height extension greater than a radius of the rolling elements such that the guide surfaces overlap in a vertical direction. The guide surfaces provide for coupling in a longitudinal direction between the blades such that the guide unit provides for a set longitudinal distance for any force applied in the longitudinal direction.

There is disclosed a cutting unit () for a hair cutting device (), comprising: a blade carrier () carrying a cutting blade; a guard () comprising: a blade-facing surface engaging the cutting blade at a cut location; a planar guard contact surface () for contacting skin of a user, wherein the guard contact surface () is angled with respect to the blade-facing surface; and a guard extender () separate from the guard (), wherein the guard extender () comprises a planar extension contact surface () configured to cooperate with the guard contact surface () to provide an extended contact zone () across the guard () and the guard extender () for contacting skin of a user. The blade-facing surface and the guard contact surface () converge towards a tip of the guard, wherein a cutting direction extends along the guard contact surface () towards the tip. The guard extender () is configured so that the extension contact surface () is rearward of the guard contact surface () with respect to the cutting direction X. The extension contact surface () has a transverse extent along an axis perpendicular to the cutting direction, and wherein there is a gap along the cutting direction X between the guard contact surface and at least a transverse portion of the extension contact surface. The extended contact zone may provide for improved stability and reliable orientation of the cutting unit for cutting while limiting material use.

A method of manufacturing a blade set assembly, a blade set assembly, and a hair cutting appliance, wherein the method includes providing a base component including a stationary blade, providing a movable component comprising a cutter blade, providing a coupling element, the coupling element being arranged to be interposed between the base component and the movable component, providing a plastic contact bridge, arranging the stationary blade and the cutter blade at a defined relative assembly position, securing the assembly position between the stationary blade and the cutter blade, involving attaching the plastic contact bridge to one of the base component and the movable component, attaching a retaining portion of the coupling element to the other one of the base component and the movable component, and penetrating the plastic contact bridge with at least one insertion end of the coupling element.

A spacing comb arrangement for a hair cutting appliance includes a comb piece configured to be disposed at a skin-facing side of a stationary blade of a blade set.
