The present invention relates to determining the rotation of an interventional device in an ultrasound field. An interventional device is provided that is suitable for being tracked in an ultrasound beam of a beamforming ultrasound imaging system by correlating transmitted ultrasound signals from the beamforming ultrasound imaging system as detected by ultrasound receivers attached to the interventional device with the beamforming beam sequence of the ultrasound signals. The interventional device includes a longitudinal axis (A-A'), a first linear sensor array () comprising a plurality of ultrasound receivers (R) wherein each ultrasound receiver has a length (L) and a width (W), and wherein the array extends along the width (W) direction. Moreover the first linear sensor array () is wrapped circumferentially around the interventional device with respect to the axis (A-A′) such that the length (L) of each ultrasound receiver is arranged lengthwise with respect to the axis (A-A′).

Rotation determination in an ultrasound beam

An interventional device includes a sensor interconnection region () for making electrical contact to a sensor () disposed on the interventional device. The interventional device includes an electrically conductive elongate shaft, a sensor strip (), electrical conductors (), and an electrical shield layer (). The electrical conductors () extend along the sensor strip between a sensor region () and a window () within which the electrical conductors () are exposed. The sensor strip () is wrapped around the elongate shaft () in a spiral such that the electrical conductors () extend along the longitudinal axis (A-A') within the window (), and such that an electrical shield contact portion (&#x2032;) adjacent the window (), the window (), and an exposed portion of the electrically conductive elongate shaft (&#x2032;) beyond the wrapped sensor strip provide the sensor interconnection region ().

Interventional device with electrical connections

An interventional device includes an elongate shaft () with a longitudinal axis (A-A'), and an ultrasound detector (). The ultrasound detector () comprises a PVDF homopolymer foil strip (). The foil strip () is wrapped around the longitudinal axis (A-A&#x2032;) of the elongate shaft () to provide a band having an axial length (L) along the longitudinal axis (A-A&#x2032;). The axial length (L) is in the range 80-120 microns.

The first edge and the second edge are separated by a width dimension, and the first edge and the second edge each extend along a length direction of the transducer strip. The invention relates to a transfer stack (TS) for transferring a portion of a foil within a perimeter (P) that includes a transducer (T) to an article (A) such as a medical device or a medical needle. The transfer stack includes a carrier substrate (CS), a foil (F) having a transducer (T) incorporated therein, and the transducer is laterally surrounded by a perimeter (P). The foil (F) is separable from the carrier substrate (CS) by overcoming a first peel retaining force (PRF). An adhesive layer (AL) is also attached to the foil. The adhesive layer (AL) is configured to provide adhesion between the foil (F) and an article (A) such that when the article (A) is attached to the foil via the adhesive layer (AL) the foil (F) is separable from the surface of the article (A) by overcoming a second peel retaining force (PRF). The second peel retaining force (PRF) is greater than the first peel retaining force (PRF).

A transducer laminate in which electrical contact is made between electrical conductors (C, C) and a transducer layer (TY). The transducer laminate includes two adhesive-coated foils (F, F), whose adhesive coatings (AC, AC) are arranged to face each other. At a first position (A-A') along the length of the two electrical conductors (C, C) the two electrical conductors (C, C) are sandwiched between the adhesive coatings (AC, AC) of the two adhesive-coated foils, and the transducer layer (TY) is also sandwiched between the two electrical conductors (C, C) such that electrical contact is made with the electrodes (E, E) on the transducer layer (TY). At a second position (B-B&#x2032;) along the length of the two electrical conductors (C, C) the two electrical conductors (C, C) are sandwiched between the adhesive coatings (AC, AC) of the two adhesive-coated foils and there is no transducer layer (TY) sandwiched between the two electrical conductors (C, C).

Transducer laminate

An inkjet device for controlled positioning of a droplet of a substance onto a substrate includes a print head having a nozzle configured to eject the droplet. A camera is configured to detect and generate images of the droplet after ejection of the droplet from the nozzle. If the droplet volume, velocity, flight path, viscosity or surface tension start to deviate from preset values, a computer is configured to correct for this in a closed loop manner. If the droplet fails to eject, the computer is configured to stop the inkjet device and an operator can maintain the print head. The computer is configured to determine viscosity and surface tension of the droplet from characteristics of the droplet identified from the droplet images, and the computer is configured to control the positioning of the droplet onto the substrate during the printing process based on the determined viscosity and surface tension.
