A ripper tip is detachably mounted on a wedge-shaped nose of a shank by an elongated retention apparatus. The retention apparatus comprises a resilient, expandible retainer defining a cavity therein, a lock pin partially disposed within the cavity and an elastomeric slug disposed in the cavity between the retainer and lock pin urging the retainer into bearing contact with the shank and the lock pin into bearing contact with the tip. The retainer is of U-shape section having bottom and side walls which are expanded by the slug to fill an opening formed by a wall through the shank, and also includes flanges at the upper ends of the side walls which do not expand within the opening, yet contact such shank wall.

Resilient retention key for replaceable ripper teeth

An earthworking device comprises a support member having a work tool, such as an earthworking tip, detachably mounted on a forward end thereof. A pin is disposed in aligned bores formed through the support member and the work tool and an annular replaceable cartridge circumvents the pin to retain it in position. The cartridge comprises a housing having an annular elastomeric member secured therein and circumventing the pin in frictional engagement therewith.

Cartridge retaining means for earthworking tips

A ripper tip is mounted on the end of a shank by a cylindrical pin disposed in aligned bores formed therethrough. A camming member is reciprocally mounted in each end of the pin to each have a first end thereof engage the tip in bearing contact therewith. A set screw is threadably mounted in the pin to engage a second end of each camming member to urge it into such bearing contact. In a first described embodiment of this invention, the camming member is disposed perpendicular relative to the longitudinal axis of the pin and the set screw is disposed in parallel relationship relative thereto whereas in a second embodiment the camming member and set screw are each disposed at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the pin.
