Disclosed herein are methods of electrostatically printing a cyclodextrin composition on a substrate, the method including forming an electrostatically printable composition comprising a polymer and one or more cyclodextrins, one or more cyclodextrin inclusion complexes, or a combination thereof, and electrostatically printing the composition on a substrate. Also described are electrostatically printable compositions, methods of making the compositions, printing systems employing the compositions, substrates having the composition electrostatically printed thereon, laminates thereof, and uses of the printed substrates and laminates.

Electrostatic printing of cyclodextrin compositions

Cyclodextrin compositions including one or more radiation polymerizable monomers and a cyclodextrin inclusion complex, the cyclodextrin inclusion complex including a cyclodextrin compound and an olefinic inhibitor of an ethylene generation in produce, are coated onto packaging materials and cured. Treated containers and treated package inserts having the cured cyclodextrin compositions are useful in packaging of respiring plant materials.

Cyclodextrin compositions, articles, and methods

A clathrate of 1-methylcyclopropene with &#x3b1;-cyclodextrin, obtained as a solid particulate product, is modified by comminuting, classifying, or both to obtain a modified particulate. When subjected to identical atmospheric disgorgement conditions of humidity and temperature, identical masses of the modified and unmodified particulates exhibit different rates of 1-methylcyclopropene disgorgement. Specifically, we have found that a smaller mean particle size is inversely related to a greater rate of 1-methylcyclopropene release.

Compositions and methods for differential release of 1-methylcyclopropene

The invention is a composition that can prevent formation in, or scavenge undesirable organic materials from, a polymer matrix. The composition contains cyclodextrin and particles of activated carbon. The composition can scavenge thermal decomposition products that can be produced during melt processing of a polymer, contaminants inherent in a polymer, or other types of impurities from a polymer matrix that otherwise may elute into the air, a water supply, or an ingestible material such as a food, a drug, or a beverage. Other aspects of the invention are blends of the composition with polymeric materials, methods of making blends, articles containing the composition, and methods of making articles containing the composition.

Combination of substituted cyclodextrin compound and activated carbon

Cyclodextrin compositions, including a hydrophobic carrier and a cyclodextrin complex, are formed and disposed on a variety of substrates using conditions that avoid substantial loss of the complexed compound from the cyclodextrin complex, even where the complexed compound is a gas a common ambient temperatures (e.g. 20&#xb0; C.). Flexographic printing is particularly useful for disposing the cyclodextrin compositions on one or more substrates. Substrates treated with the cyclodextrin complexes are useful for subsequent release of the complexed compound.

Controlled release compositions and methods of using

Compositions that can be used to adsorb low concentration, of unwanted or target substances from a dynamic fluid stream or from an enclosed static vapor phase. Such adsorbency can be obtained with thermoplastic materials used in the form of bulk polymer or a film, fiber, web, woven fabric, non-woven fabric, sheet, packaging and other such structures including or surrounding the enclosed volume. The concentration should be reduced to non-offensive sensed limits or a limit that does not produce a biological response.

Thermoplastic polyolefin polymer compositions, polymer chips, fibers, woven or nonwoven fabrics, films, closures, and laminates include a polymer and cyclodextrin compound with a volatile maturation inhibitor or an olefinic ethylene receptor antagonist in respiring produce materials. The polymer composition can also include a cyclodextrin-modified polymer or a substituted cyclodextrin. Olefinic ethylene inhibitors can be formed in the cyclodextrin composition, wherein the cyclodextrin releases the olefinic inhibitor composition when used in produce packaging materials. Coating compositions can also be made. The inhibitor is introduced into the materials and is released under controlled conditions of humidity. Upon release, the olefinic inhibitor blocks ethylene receptor sites on proteins that control maturation and can produce an extended period during which the produce does not substantially complete maturation or ripening to a degree leading to spoilage.
