A printing system for cut sheets includes a controller configured to control the printing of image data on a plurality of sheets and scheduling the plurality of sheets in a printing order, a paper path comprising a duplex printing loop and a rotational functional component arranged in the duplex printing loop for guiding and processing a printed sheet for two passes along or on a surface of the rotational functional component, a print engine arranged in the duplex printing loop and configured to dispose marking material on the sheets according to the image data, in two passes, one side per pass. The controller is configured to schedule one-sided printed sheets for a first pass guided along or on the surface of the rotational functional component and two-sided printed sheets for a second pass guided along or on the surface of the rotational functional component by using the duplex printing loop and to determine a distance between subsequent sheets guided along or on the surface of the rotational functional component such that a location on the surface of the rotational functional component is covered by printed sides of two-sided sheets at most a maximum number of times before the location on the surface of the rotational functional component is covered by an unprinted side of a sheet. The maximum number is determined by a degree of pollution caused by the marking material printed on two-sided printed sheets when taking a second pass along or on the surface of the rotational functional component.

Duplex printing system for cut sheets and a method therefor

A system and method for adding a print medium digitally to a print system are disclosed. The print system has a control unit for controlling a print job queue and print system parameters, a print engine, an input section, and a receiving section. The method includes receiving the print medium in the input section, loading a test job having prescribed print system parameters in the receiving section, printing a large number of prints of the test job to establish an unwanted deposit of marking material on the side of the stack, and establishing whether or not an unwanted marking material is deposited on a stack height side of the stack. If unwanted deposit is established, then printing a number of blank sheets of the same print medium, adjusting the print system parameters, and returning to printing. If no unwanted deposit is established, approving the use of the print medium.

Method for approving a new print medium for use in a print system

The present invention relates to a method for determining a characteristic of a surface layer of a fuser element for fusing a marking material on a recording medium in a printing system. The printing system comprises a capacitive probe, which comprises a first electrode and a second electrode. The second electrode is arranged adjacent to the first electrode in order to form a capacitor. The first electrode and the second electrode are in operation both arranged adjacent to and opposing the surface layer of the fuser element. The method comprises the steps of performing a capacitive measurement on the surface layer by the first electrode and the second electrode of the capacitive probe and determining a characteristic of the surface layer based on the capacitive measurement.

A roller for a printer includes an outer tube and at least one inner tube. The inner tube is position within the outer tube. The outer tube extends in an axial direction from a first to a second end and the inner tube extends substantially parallel to the outer tube, defining an inter tubular space between the outer and the inner tube and an intra tubular space within the inner tube. The roller also includes a blocking element dividing the inter tubular space and the intra tubular space into a first part extending substantially from the first end to the blocking element and a second part extending substantially from the blocking element to the second end. A first and a second duct connects the first and second part of the inter tubular space with the second and first part, respectively, of the intra tubular space via the blocking element.
