In a twin-wire former for the production of a paper web, two wire belts (11 and 12) together form a twin-wire zone which is divided into three sections (I, II and III). In the first section (I) the two wires (11, 12) travel over a curved forming shoe (16). They form there a wedge-shaped inlet slot (15) with which a headbox (10) is directly associated. In the second section (II), several resiliently supported strips (27) rest against the lower wire (11) and between each of said strips (27) a rigidly mounted strip (28) rests against the upper wire (12). In the third section (III) both wire belts (11, 12) pass over another curved forming shoe (23).

A two-wire former for producing a web of fibrous material, in particular a paper web, is designed as a gap-former with the following characteristics: a first and a second wires form together a twin wire; a headbox injects the pulp directly between the two wires; at least one first dewatering zone consists in the advance direction of a curved, non-rotary, interrupted surface, for example a forming shoe or several strips that form together a surface. The invention is characterized in that a convex dewatering element that starts directly at the point of impact of the jet of pulp is provided at the beginning of the first dewatering zone, seen in the advance direction, and has at least two curvature radii Ri in contact with the wires. Both curvature radii Ri are smaller than the curvature radius Ri+l that follows them in the advance direction.

Twin-wire former

In a two-wire cylinder dryer, the wire guide rolls are so arranged that the web and wire proceed jointly from the first cylinder to the wire guide roll. An air carrier box is arranged in the shaft contained between two cylinders. The air carrier box has an air channel connecting the area of the leaving point A with an opposite pressure zone. Hot air flows into the air channel through a driver nozzle, so that in the area of the leaving point there is a vacuum zone created which is outwardly bounded by a sealing strip. The pressure zone is bounded by further sealing strips.

A press roll of adjustable sag has a roll shell which is rotatable around a stationary yoke that is supported on a pedestal. Each end of the roll shell terminates in a journal that is supported by a self aligning bearing disposed within a bearing housing. The bearing housing and the supported end of the roll shell is displaceable relative to the yoke transversely to the axis of the press roll and in the press plane of the press roll and the mating roll. Hydraulic support pistons on the yoke supply support for the press roll shell against the mating roll. The distances between the bearings of the roll shell and of the mating roll are approximately equal. To exert additional bending forces on the ends of the roll shell, a double acting hydraulic force producing piston is supported in the pedestal and is connected with the guide part in which the self aligning bearings are supported for displacing the guide part, for displacing the bearings, for displacing the end of the roll shell, generally in the press plane. That displacement also is adapted to lift the roll shell off the mating roll.

The disclosure concerns a coating device for coating a web which travels over a counter-roller. Upstream of a doctor blade for spreading the coating composition is a coating composition application chamber that includes a resilient tongue e.g. a leaf spring, which extends downstream toward the doctor blade and defines a hydrodynamic pressure slot between the tongue and the web. A pressure space for the coating composition is defined between the downstream end of the tongue and the doctor blade. The tongue is oriented to gradually narrow the height of the hydrodynamic pressure slot between the tongue and the web, and the tongue is resilient or resilently supported for this purpose. An additional retention wall helps close off the pressure space. The pressure space helps avoid air inclusions in the coating composition and creates a quiescent zone upstream of the doctor blade enabling uniform application of the coating.

The disclosure concerns a press device for a paper making machine, and particularly concerns an extended nip press. A hollow tubular, stationary support body extends around a supporting beam, which is a flexing beam. Hydraulic piston-cylinder combinations extend between the beam and the supporting body in a press plane. A radially non-displaceable press shoe is supported on the support body and faces toward a counter-roll to define a press nip between them. The outwardly facing surface of the press shoe is concave in the circumferential direction of the support body. The amount of pressure in the hydraulic supporting means determines the press force which prevails in the press zone.
