An internal combustion engine, particularly for a motor vehicle, has a starter as described above. A retaining flange for an electric motor, particularly for a starter of a motor vehicle, the retaining flange being developed as an insulating part, and is made up at least partially of an electrically insulating material and/or has at least one electrically insulating insulating element situated on the retaining flange.
