A method of chip-removal machining a tooth gap of a work piece includes executing a first substantially linear plunging movement of the cutting tool along a first plunge vector and machining a region of the work piece near a tooth head of a first tooth flank of the tooth. A substantially transverse movement of the tool along a transverse vector is then executed to machine a region of the work piece near a tooth head of the second tooth flank of the tooth. A second plunging movement of the cutting tool along a vector path is then executed, to an end point of the second plunging movement that lies at a position of the work piece corresponding to the slot depth of the tooth gap to be fabricated. The cutting tool is rotated about an axis of rotation thereof during execution of these steps.

Milling of a bevel gear tooth system in the continuous process, wherein a cutter head comprising a plurality of pairs of inner cutting edges and outer cutting edges is applied to a workpiece, the inner cutting edges are arranged on a smaller fly circle radius than the outer cutting edges and movements for a metal-cutting machining by milling are performed by a gear cutting machine where the bevel work gear and the cutter head run linkedly: performing a first continuous metal-cutting machining by milling using the gear cutting machine according to a first machine setting, wherein convex inner flanks on the bevel work gear are machined by the inner cutting edges; and performing a second continuous metal-cutting machining by milling using a gear cutting machine according to a second machine setting, wherein concave outer flanks on the bevel work gear are machined by the outer cutting edges.

Method and system for milling a bevel gear tooth system in a continuous miling process

On a CNC machine for machining spiral bevel gears the axis (T) of a tool spindle forms a fixed, non-adjustable tilt angle (&#x3ba;) against an orientation axis (O) for all bevel gears to be machined. The tool spindle is adapted to be continuously swiveled about the orientation axis (O) by a swivel drum. A work gear spindle is adjustable in its angular position about a pivot axis (P) for a bevel gear to be machined on the machine, but it does not change its angular position during the machining operation. The tilt angle (&#x3ba;) and the angular position are selected such that a predetermined rolling motion between the work gear and the tool can be achieved. Swiveling of the tool spindle axis (T) about the orientation axis (O) leads to a higher machine stiffness than does a machine root angle pivoting of the work gear spindle axis (W) about the pivot axis (P) applied in the prior art, and therefore, it results in more precise tooth flanks on the machined spiral bevel gears.

An apparatus includes a blade grinding machine, a measuring system and a control for providing a bar blade suitable for cutting work pieces. The blade grinding machine includes a clamping mechanism for mounting the bar blade and a grinding wheel for grinding the mounted bar blade. The measuring system also includes a clamping mechanism for mounting bar blade and at least one probe for three-dimensional sampling of the bar blade mounted on the measuring system. The control enables a data exchange between the blade grinding machine and the measuring system in order to grind and sample the bar blade in an alternating fashion. The apparatus is a closed system in which data exchange is automated.
