Gas discharge display device having a vacuum-tight gas-filled envelope with a front plate and a back plate. A perforated control unit divides the interior of the envelope into a gas discharge space and a post-acceleration space and includes several electrode planes extending parallel to the plates. The gas discharge space has at least one plasma cathode and at least one plasma anode. The front layer carries on its back side a cathodoluminescent layer as well as an electrically conducting layer (post-acceleration anode). A spacer frame spaces the conductor as post-acceleration cathode in the foremost electrode plane of the control unit from the post-acceleration anode. In operation, a gas discharge burns at least temporarily between the plasmas electrodes. Electrons are pulled through selectively opened holes of the control unit into the post-acceleration space. The post-acceleration space which remains free of discharges is accelerated to several kV. The spacer frame has a rough surface at least on its inside.

Gas discharge display device having a vacuum-tight envelope with a front and back plate. A control unit divides the interior of the envelope filled with gas into a back and front space. The back space has at least one plasma cathode and at least one plasma anode. The front plate carries a cathodoluminescent layer and a layer electrode. The control unit contains at least one electrode plane extending parallel to the wall plates, with at least one conductor. In operation a gas discharge burns between the plasma electrodes. The distance between the post-acceleration anode and cathode is small such that no gas discharge is ignited in the post-acceleration space. The post-acceleration cathode is coated with an implantation protection layer of a high-melting metal to maintain the operating voltage constant under continuous load.

A gas discharge display device has a discharge chamber and a post-acceleration chamber which are separated by a perforated control disc having line and column conductors thereon. The post-acceleration chamber is limited at its lateral boundary by at least one spacing frame which leaves the post-acceleration chamber support-free in its active volume. The inner boundary of the lateral spacing frame substantially coincides with the outer boundary of an active luminescent screen surface which limits one side of the post-acceleration chamber, and the frame has a width such that the inner frame boundary is free of sealing material and which further maintains a separation between the outer edge regions of the potential layers on the opposite sides of the post-acceleration chamber. A high post-acceleration voltage can thus be employed in the post-acceleration chamber without producing arcing.

A spacer mount for a gas-discharge display device in which glass elements are arranged between a control hole plate and a fluorescent screen carrying image points of luminous material has a plurality of glass plates stacked one atop another between the control hole plate and the fluorescent screen. The glass layers include holes aligned with the holes of the control hole plate and the image points, and at least one metal layer is interposed between at least two of the glass plates and has holes aligned with the holes of the control hole plate.

Spacer mount in a gas-discharge display device

A double mask raster method for application of a number of different slurries in a discrete pattern, to produce a raster such as can be used in color television picture tubes, has a first mask having a plurality of apertures therein which remains immovably on the substrate throughout the application of all slurries. A separate second mask having a smaller number of aligned apertures therein is utilized with each successive application of a different slurry, allowing the slurry to penetrate the two masks to the substrate only where apertures in the two masks are aligned. The method may be used to apply slurries to flat or curved substrates in a vertical or horizontal position adapted for conventional spraying, or by means of electrostatic spraying.
