For providing a service-centric approach to allocating computing service power to users in a heterogeneous distributed computing environment such as a grid, a grid service broker comprises a central service broker and distributed service brokers. Service power is measured in resource-independent service units defined and used by the service broker. The central service broker uses meta-scheduling for distributing service requests to the distributed service brokers, based on projected service units needed to process the service requests.

The invention concerns a method of recording information on an electrosensitive record carrier, preferably a record carrier covered with a metallic or metalliferous layer, by means of a print head movable relatively parallel to the surface of the record carrier and comprising at least one print electrode controllable by print pulses, and a control circuit for the timely generation of the print pulses from digital or analog signals received in such a manner that the duration and amplitude of each print current pulse are chosen so that the print process triggered by the individual print pulse is completed by the time the print pulse stops.

Alphanumeric characters are stored in compressed form by creating a character list of information describing each character. The character is divided into rows and columns. To reconstruct the character, a position register is provided to accommodate successive positional values in a column where a transition from white/black (or vice versa) occurs. A decoder circuit, which has a number of outputs corresponding to the number of positional values possible, is coupled to the position register and provides an output associated with each of the transition values.
