Coke including additives that are accumulated at the yield points or in the regions surrounded by the yield points. For homogeneous distribution, the additives are continuously dosed into the delayed coker during the filling time. The dosing can be carried out by powdery blowing with an inert gas (nitrogen) or also distributed in a slurry consisting of the reaction components and a partial flow of the coker feed (vacuum resid, pytar, decant oil or coal-tar distillates). According to an advantageous form of embodiment, the additives may optionally have a diameter of between 0.05 mm and 5 mm, preferably between 1 mm and 3 mm. Advantageously, the additives can be selected from at least one of acetylene coke, fluid coke, flexi coke, shot coke, carbon black, non-graphitisable carbons (chars), non-graphitic anthracite, silicon carbide, titanium carbide, titanium diboride or mixtures thereof.

The present invention relates to a material including a matrix and at least one reinforcing element introduced therein, wherein the matrix is selected from the group consisting of plastic, carbon, ceramic, glass, clay, metal, and combinations thereof, and the reinforcing element is spherical to ellipsoidal in shape and has an onionskin-like structure. The present invention further relates to a method for producing a material including steps preparing at least one spherical to ellipsoidal reinforcing element having an onionskin-type structure, and introducing the reinforcing element into a matrix, wherein the matrix is selected from the group consisting of plastic, carbon, ceramic, glass, clay, metal, and combinations thereof. The present invention further relates to use of the material in a friction application, as abrasion protection, an injection molding part, a support plate, catalyst substrate or as bone replacement material.

Material, method for producing a material and use thereof

In a method of manufacturing a porous coke suitable as a charge-storing material in electrochemical capacitors, one manufactures or provides a non-calcined isotropic coke with spherical or onion-shaped morphology and low graphitizability as a starting material. The starting material is comingled with a caustic alkali to obtain a homogenous mixture. The homogenous mixture is heat treated at a temperature in a range between 650 and 950&#xb0; C. to obtain the porous coke. The porous coke is washed and neutralized.

A number of properties of polygranular carbon bodies can be improved by small quantities of carbon fibers being incorporated in the formulations for production of such bodies. However, it has proven difficult for carbon fibers to be introduced into the green mixture. Therefore, a high-grade coke, preferably needle coke, in accordance with the invention is used to produce the polygranular carbon bodies. This high-grade coke according to the invention contains the carbon fibers simply as a result of being produced in the delayed coker of a refinery. All the main details of the way in which a coke of this type is mixed into the green mixture correspond to the reliably managed processing of other needle cokes.
