A ship drive with a drive engine and a propeller shaft which is directly connected therewith and provided with a propeller and the thrust of which is taken up by a thrust bearing, as well as an auxiliary drive consisting of an electric engine which is to operate selectably as a generator or a motor and which is connected with a transmission by way of a clutch in that a rotationally stiff, but axially pliant diaphragm coupling connected with the propeller shaft and the auxiliary bearing forms the play-free mechanically positive connection and in normal operation the auxiliary thrust bearing is clamped by means of pressure blocks against the flanges of the drive side and the thrust shaft.

Two hydraulic brakes or clutches being primary users, are alternately, delayedly, hydraulically energized from a constant volumetric flow rate pump feeding also a secondary user via a pressure controller with a differential piston operated by feedback ducts from the primary users via a throttle valve. The latter valve is bypassed through a check valve for undelayed de-energization. A selector valve is disposed between the branch point for the secondary user and upstream as to energizing fluid from the feedback connection to the primary user. The pressure controller is described further as to several structural details.

Hydraulic control with delay

Apparatus for mounting and dismounting vehicle tires, comprises a disc on which the tire is releasably clamped by screw-threaded members, and means to rotate the disc about a vertical axis. A roller arranged generally radially of the axis of the tire, with the axis of the roller horizontal, engages the bead of the tire to flex the tire for mounting and dismounting the tire from its rim. The roller is mounted for bodily vertical movement on a vertical spindle in a direction parallel to the axis of the disc on which the tire is mounted, and also for horizontal swinging movement about an axis adjacent its end remote from the axis of the tire.

A method of quench hardening a gear having a gear rim, a hub, and two rim carrying gear disk includes carburizing the gear and quenching it subsequently in a saline bath, and is improved by releasably covering the perforated disks with perforated supplemental disks, the perforations are closed during carburization but open during quenching. The gear is turned about its vertically positioned axis during quenching; the supplemental disks are removed subsequently so that the gear disks are not carburized.

Quench hardening of gears

A shaft carrying a cutter head is bolted to the output shaft of a speed reducer gear in coaxial configuration and having a casing journalled on the shaft. The casing carries plural drive motors and the gear has a combining stage as input. The shafts are mounted in thrust and pendulum bearings in a frame and the casing is held against rotation on that frame. The output stage of the gear is a planetary gear with a spider from which extends the output shaft and a hollow shaft and in opposite directions. The casing is journalled on the shaft by bearings engaging the hollow shaft and the output shaft at opposite sides of the spider.
