An apparatus on a carding machine for processing textile fibres, with a cylinder, has, in the preliminary carding zone, after carding zone and/or underneath carding zone, covering elements which lie opposite the cylinder clothing. A fixed carding element is associated with at least one cover element. The spacing of the cylinder clothing from the clothing of the fixed carding element is smaller than the spacing from the cover element. In order to reduce nep formation, to allow improved carding work and to give a better carding result, between at least one clothing strip of the fixed carding element and a cover element arranged upstream and/or downstream thereof, there is arranged an air guide element the spacing of which with respect to the cylinder clothing gradually decreases or increases.

A sliver guiding assembly for the passage of a sliver bundle discharged in a sliver advancing direction by output rolls of a drawing unit forming part of a draw frame. The assembly includes a sliver guide having a wall face converging in a direction of the advancing direction and a passage provided in the wall face. The sliver bundle is adapted to travel through the passage in the advancing direction. A sliver leading element is disposed upstream of the passage as viewed in the advancing direction for gathering the sliver bundle and for guiding it toward the passage. An arrangement is provided for maintaining communication between a zone of the sliver guide and enviromental air; the zone is defined between the outlet of the sliver leading element and the inlet of the passage.

A drawing unit for drawing sliver includes first and second drawing roll pairs being spaced from one another in the direction of sliver advance. One drawing roll in each drawing roll pair is a driven roll. There are further provided first and second drive motors; a first torque-transmitting device connected to the first drive motor and to the driven roll of the first drawing roll pair for driving the first drawing roll pair in a forward sense for feeding the sliver; a second torque-transmitting device connected to the second drive motor and to the driven roll of the second drawing roll pair for driving the second drawing roll pair in a forward sense for feeding the sliver; an electronic control and regulating device connected to the first and second drive motors; a freewheel backstop operatively connected to the driven roll of the first roll pair for preventing rotation thereof in a reverse sense; and an incremental rotary path indicator coupled to the driven roll of the second roll pair for generating signals representing rotary data of the driven roll of the second roll pair.

A carding machine includes a web delivering mechanism formed of a pair of cooperating rolls, for discharging a fiber web; and a web guiding element positioned immediately downstream of the roll pair as viewed in the direction of web advance. The web guiding element has an inner surface oriented towards the roll pair and is arranged transversely to the plane of the web for guiding and gathering the web. The web guiding element further has a web passage aperture through which the gathered web passes and leaves the web guiding element. A guiding body is positioned between the roll pair and the web guiding element in a zone of the aperture. The guiding body includes a supporting surface for supporting the gathered web prior to the passage thereof through the aperture.

A carding machine includes a feed roll, a feed table cooperating with the feed roll and defining a nip therewith; and a licker-in arranged for plucking exiting fiber material from the nip. The feed table has an end face which is oriented toward the licker-in and which carries a carding element having carding points projecting toward the licker-in. The carding points are formed by surface roughening or by the provision of a granular coating.

An apparatus for gathering a running fiber web into a sliver, includes a web guide element having edge portions defining an outlet opening through which the web passes; a trumpet arranged downstream of the outlet opening of the web guide element as viewed in a direction of web advance, and an arrangement for guiding air, flowing against the direction of web advance and generated by web compression downstream of the web guide element, away from a zone extending between the outlet opening of the web guide element and the outlet opening of the trumpet.

Apparatus for gathering a fiber web into a sliver in a carding machine

A device for gathering a running fiber web delivered by a pair of cooperating rolls (forming part of a web delivering assembly arranged downstream of a carding machine) includes at least one operationally substantially stationary guide element having a hollow guiding face. The guide element is supported downstream of and immediately adjacent to the rolls of the web delivering assembly. The hollow guiding face extends transversely to the direction of advance of the web as the latter leaves the rolls and shrouds at least one part of both rolls.
