For effectively reprocessing iron-containing residual smelting plant materials ( to ), in which iron may be present both in metallic form and in oxidic form, with lowest possible energy expenditure, the residual smelting plant materials ( to ) are processed into agglomerates ( ), the agglomerates ( ) are charged into an electric arc furnace ( ), melted there and reduced, and the resultant melt is refined (FIG. ).

A converter for the production of steel from solid and/or liquid charging substances, such as pig iron and/or scrap and/or sponge iron, includes a refractorily lined refining vessel, a refining device for feeding oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas, and a heating device. In order to obtain the maximum output possible at high scrap charging as well as a high purity of the steel, the heating device includes at least one self-consuming graphite electrode and the refining device, independent of the heating device, either is formed by an oxygen-blowing lance or includes oxygen-containing bottom and/or lateral tuyeres located below the melt bath level.

Converter for the production of steel

A plant for the production of molten metals, includes a melting vessel and a metallurgical vessel receiving the melt from the melting vessel for aftertreating the melt and closed by a lid. The melting vessel has a tap opening for the melt provided on the bottom level of the melting vessel and located on the periphery of the melting vessel. The tap opening is positioned above a pour-in opening of the metallurgical vessel. In order to ensure a continuous melting procedure, the pour-in opening of the metallurgical vessel following the melting vessel is provided above a melt guiding chute arranged within the metallurgical vessel.

There are disclosed a method and an arrangement for preventing the agglomeration of crusts in a lance opening passing a wall of a metallurgical vessel and provided for a lance carrying a measuring and/or sampling probe. During the metallurgical process proceeding within the metallurgical vessel and during the taking of a measurement and/or sample by means of a lance introduced into the metallurgical vessel through the lance opening, a gas that is inert relative to a melt bath contained in the metallurgical vessel, or air, is injected into the lance opening from outside, which gas produces a gas veil at the mouth of the lance opening facing the melt bath.

A plant for the production of molten metals includes a melting vessel in whose wall burners and optionally oxygen-containing-gas feeding ducts are installed and on whose upper end a charging device as well as a gas evacuation duct receiving the offgases forming enter. In order to enable the continuous charging of the melting vessel by avoiding any unintentional escape of gas from the melting vessel, both the gas evacuation duct and the charging means run into the upper end of the furnace shaft laterally and approximately diametrically opposite each other. The charging means projects into a charging opening brushed over by a gas curtain and an intake chute for charging material is provided below the charging opening in a manner directed towards the center of the furnace shaft. The intake chute forms a projection protruding inwardly like a nose relative to the wall of the furnace shaft and followed by a wall section inclined relative to the lower end region of the furnace shaft and passing over into the wall of the furnace shaft.

There is disclosed a process for the production of molten steel or steel pre-products from scrap contaminated with combustible waste-like substances and heated and melted in a metallurgical meltdown vessel. In order to be able to dispose of the forming noxious substances at low costs and to keep the offgases free of impurities detrimental to the environment, the gas forming during charging of scrap into the metallurgical vessel and during heating and melting of the scrap, after conditioning to a temperature range of between 1000.degree. and 1500.degree. C., is used as a heating gas in a lime-burning process including a moving lime fixed-bed under release of its sensible heat. Sulfur- and chlorine-containing components of the heating gas are absorbed on the burnt lime and the dust contained in the heating gas is separated in the lime fixed-bed. The heating gas, which is purified and cooled at its passage through the lime fixed-bed, subsequently is finally purified in a filtering plant.

Process and installation for producing molten steel of scrap

There is disclosed a metallurgical vessel, such as a steelworks converter, having a refractory brick lining and a probe opening passing a wall of the vessel for introducing a measuring and/or sampling probe. In order that the probe opening will get obstructed only minimally, if at all, and possible deposits of slag will be removed easily and quickly, the probe opening is provided with a lining of graphite or a graphite/alumina mixture.

To produce deoxidized steel by the addition of deoxidizing agents to molten crude steel having an oxygen content of at least 200 ppm and the subsequent addition of alloying agents, the deoxidation is realized at least partially under the formation of liquid deoxidation products by the simultaneous addition of the two deoxidizing agents FeSi and FeMn. The method according to the invention ensures a great analytical precision of the steel and is not limited to the production of certain steels.
