The present invention provides pharmaceutical compounds for the treatment of high-grade superficial bladder cancer in patent in need thereof. Further described are compositions of azolium salts for use in such treatment.

Azolium salts for treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer

Singly and multiply charged imidazolium cations (ICs) have been identified as a class of chemical compositions that possess potent antineoplastic, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. The imidazolium cations disclosed demonstrate greater or equivalent potency towards cancerous cells as the current clinical standard, cisplatin. These imidazolium cations, however, achieve this efficacy without any of the known toxic side effects caused by heavy metal-based antineoplastic drugs such as cisplatin.

Azolium and purinium salt anticancer and antimicrobial agents

The present invention generally relates to metal complexes of N-heterocyclic carbenes that contain one or more additional active moieties and/or groups therein. In still another embodiment, the present invention relates to metal complexes of N-heterocyclic carbenes that contain an anti-fungal and/or anti-microbial moiety and/or group in combination with two or more additional active moieties and/or groups selected from fluoroquinolone compounds or derivatives thereof; steroids or derivatives thereof; anti-inflammatory compounds or derivatives thereof; anti-fungal compounds or derivatives thereof; anti-bacterial compounds or derivatives thereof; antagonist compounds or derivatives thereof; Hreceptor compounds or derivatives thereof; chemotherapy compounds or derivatives thereof; tumor suppressor compounds or derivatives thereof; or Cto Calkyl heteroatom groups where the heterotatom is selected from S, O, or N.

A method for inhibiting microbial growth comprises administering an effective amount of a silver complex of a N-heterocyclic amine. A method for treating cancer cells or a method for imaging one or more tissues of a patient includes administering an effective amount of a complex of a N-heterocyclic amine and a radioactive metal. A method for treating urinary tract infections utilizing silver complexes of N-heterocyclic carbenes. N-heterocyclic carbenes of the present invention may be represented by the formula wherein Z is a heterocyclic group, and Rand Rare, independently or in combination, hydrogen or a C-Corganic group selected from the group consisting of alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, arylalkyl, alkylaryl, heterocyclic, and alkoxy groups and substituted derivatives thereof.

Metal complexes of N-heterocyclic carbenes as antibiotics

The invention is directed to providing a compound for treating cancer, the compound comprising a metal complex having predetermined characteristics, and which may be incorporated into a polymeric nanoparticle or other delivery system for delivering the metal complex for action on tumor cells. The metal complex for treating cancer wherein the metal complex is a silver(I) salt, a silver(I) macrocyclic metal complex, a silver(I) N-heterocyclic carbene or mixtures thereof. The invention is also directed to a silver(I) macrocyclic metal complex and a silver(I) N-heterocyclic carbine, and methods of treating cancerous cells in a mammal including the steps of administering an effective amount of a silver(I) metal salt, such as by incorporating the material into a biodegradable polymeric nanoparticle.

The present invention provides a supramolecular structure produced by the process comprising reacting a multi-generation dendrimer with a monomer, where the dendrimer comprises a core molecule, a plurality of interior generations spherically disposed around the core molecule and an outermost generation comprising a plurality of dendritic branches having terminal groups sufficiently reactive to undergo addition or substitution reactions, where the monomer introduces a labile bond and at least one cross-linkable moiety to the terminal groups of each dendritic branch, and where the cross-linkable moiety is bonded to the terminal group via the labile bond; crosslinking the cross-linkable moieties of adjacent dendritic branches; and cleaving the labile bonds, thereby freeing the dendrimer and forming a molecule encapsulated within a cross-linked shell molecule. The present invention further provides a process for the production of the supramolecular structures.
