Method for taking a test using a smartphone including placing the smartphone into connection with a device, placing the device on a head of a person with the smartphone in a position in which a display of the smartphone is visible to the person, coupling the smartphone to the device and displaying test questions on the display. Cheating is detected by, for example, monitoring presence of the device on the head of the person by periodically obtaining biometric data from the person and analyzing a change in the biometric data relative to previously obtained biometric data for the person, and when a change is present, stopping display of the test questions and generating and transmitting a communication to a test-providing institution derived from the change in biometric data.

Secure testing using a smartphone

Authentication system for enabling access or use includes a housing, a database of fingerprint and heartbeat data, a fingerprint sensor having a surface on an exterior of the housing onto which a person places their finger, and a heartbeat monitor that obtains data about presence of any heartbeat from a person whose fingers are placed onto the surface of the fingerprint sensor. A processor coupled to the fingerprint sensor, heartbeat monitor and database operatively compares the obtained fingerprint and heartbeat shape derived from heartbeat data to corresponding fingerprint and heartbeat shape data to determine whether the fingerprint and heartbeat shape data are indicative of a person authorized for access or use. Only if both the fingerprint and heartbeat shape data are indicative of the same person authorized for access or use, the processor authorizes access or use, e.g., to a cellphone, of a payment card, and to an access-controlled structure.

Authentication system for controlling access and use based on heartbeat shape

Intrusion-protected memory-containing assembly including a substrate, a data storage component and processor on the substrate, and a chassis intrusion detector assembly around the substrate. The chassis intrusion detector assembly includes a first plastic film, a mesh including conductor wires arranged on the first plastic film, and a second plastic film covering the mesh. The conductor wires are connected together in a single circuit with the processor to form a single transmission line. The second plastic film has sealed edges integrated with the mesh such that the edges are inseparable without breaking one of the conductor wires of the mesh. The processor takes action to prevent access to data in the data storage component upon detecting a variance in current through or impedance of the transmission line defined by the conductor wires caused by breaking of one of the conductor wires, e.g., causes the data storage component to self-destruct.

Intrusion-protected memory component

Card including a substrate, at least one biometric data entry device on the substrate to receive biometric data about an individual holding the substrate, a memory component on the substrate and containing biometric data about an individual possessing the card and at least one private key, and a processor configured to compare biometric data received via the biometric data entry device to biometric data contained in the memory component to determine whether they match. When there is a biometric data match, a process requiring use of the private key(s) is initiated for authorized use of the card. A chassis intrusion detector system detects tampering with the card and upon such detection, causes deletion of the private key(s) to thereby prevent unauthorized use of the card.

Smartcard

Secure testing system including an eyeglass frame having a lens portion and a support portion extending rearward from the lens portion, a housing attached to one side of the frame, an assembly arranged in the housing, and a chassis intrusion detector arranged in conjunction with the housing to detect an attempt to intrude into the housing. The assembly includes a display oriented rearward, a cross-view camera oriented to image toward opposite side of the frame, at least one microphone arranged on the frame to detect sound in an environment around the frame, a biometric sensor arranged on the housing to obtain biometric data, and a processor that causes display of questions on the display, monitors images from the cross-view camera for changes indicative of a possibility of reception of assistance, monitors each microphone for sounds, and monitors the biometric sensor for a change in biometric data.

Secure testing device

Electrical system for a vehicle that provides power and communications to vehicular devices includes a (singular) electrical bus having elongate wires, and connector assemblies situated at different locations along the wires. The connector assemblies include a splice housing defining an inlet and outlet for the wires, the wires passing from the inlet to the outlet through the splice housing without being interrupted, and a connector attached to the splice housing. An electrical conduit, such as one or more wires, is attached at one end region to each connector and at an opposite end region to a respective cluster or cluster control unit. Each cluster or cluster control unit is electrically coupled to at least one vehicular device. Power and communications are provided to the vehicular devices by a power source and communications source through the bus.

Vehicle wire harness

Arrangement for controlling a component having multiple states includes a device that generates a signal at a frequency that enables it to be conducted through a human body, and a conductive surface coupled to the device, situated in a position accessible by a part of the human, and which enables proximity or contact of the part of the human to the conductive surface to develop a reactive coupling between the human and the conductive surface. The component has multiple, different states and is controlled by the human to change from a first state to a second state upon completion of an electrical circuit including the component, the conductive surface and the device upon developing reactive coupling between the human and the conductive surface when the device is generating the signal conducted through the human. The component may be a vehicular component such as a door or window.

Wireless switches using human body as a conductor

Vehicle including a seat on which an occupant sits, a set of at least one electric field antenna arranged in the seat, and a control unit coupled to the antenna set and configured to direct one or more antennas to transmit an oscillating electric field at a frequency that enables the electric field to be conducted through the seated occupant. An electrical circuit is coupled to a vehicular component and has a conductive surface in a position accessible by the occupant's finger. Proximity of the occupant's finger to or contact with the conductive surface, when an antenna is transmitting an oscillating electric field conducted through the occupant, causes a capacitive coupling to develop between the occupant and the conductive surface and completion of the circuit. This enables control of the component by the occupant's finger, which may be adjustment or change in the state, condition or operation of the component.

Method and system for monitoring a driver during movement of the vehicle includes an information obtaining system that obtains information about a driver who traveled the same road at a previous time, and a processor that analyzes the obtained information and vehicle movement to determine whether the driver has lost the ability to continue to control the vehicle. The loss of ability to continue to control the vehicle arises from the driver falling asleep or otherwise being incapable of controlling the vehicle after initially having been awake or otherwise capable of controlling the vehicle. A reactive component is affected by the processor's determination that the driver has lost the ability to continue to control the vehicle, and preferably requires action by the driver to indicate regaining of the ability to operate the vehicle or exerting control over the vehicle to slow the vehicle and bring it to a stop.

Driver fatigue monitoring system and method

Techniques for obtaining information about an object on which a radio-frequency transceiver device is mounted when in a space defined by a vehicular frame. A request is generated at a telecommunications device for the object's location and received at an interrogator on the frame. In response to receipt of the request, the interrogator directs antennas to transmit RF signals into the space. The transceiver device returns a signal if and when it receives any signal or a signal having a particular identification from the antenna(s). Return signals from the transceiver device are received at each antenna and a processor, on the vehicle or the telecommunications device, derives information about the object based on the return signals. The derived information includes a location of the object in the space and/or an identification of the object, and may be displayed on a display of the telecommunications device.

Techniques for obtaining information about objects

System and method for monitoring emissions from a cell phone in a vehicle having a driver side and a passenger side, using several antennas at different locations. A receiver is associated with each antenna and includes at least one amplifier and a rectifier module that converting radio frequency signals to direct current signals. A microprocessor processes the direct current signals received and determines based thereon a phase shift or difference between signals received by two or more of the antennas, which can be correlated to a most likely location of a cell phone being used by an occupant in the vehicle.

Wireless sensing and communication system including sensors located on the vehicle, in the roadway or in the vicinity of the vehicle or roadway and which provide information which is transmitted to one or more interrogators in the vehicle by a wireless radio frequency mechanism. Power to operate a particular sensor is supplied by the interrogator or the sensor is independently connected to either a battery, generator, vehicle power source or some source of power external to the vehicle. The sensors can provide information about the vehicle and its interior or exterior environment, about individual components, systems, vehicle occupants, subsystems, or about the roadway, ambient atmosphere, travel conditions and external objects. The sensors arranged on the roadway or ancillary structures would include pressure sensors, temperature sensors, moisture content or humidity sensors, and friction sensors.

Wireless sensing and communication system for traffic lanes

Arrangement and method for monitoring a material storage container which includes a housing defining an interior receivable of removable material. An interior sensor system is arranged on the housing to obtain information about any material in the interior of the housing different than the location of the container. A location determining system is arranged on the housing to monitor the location of the container, and a communication system is coupled to the interior sensor system and the location determining system and transmits information about the material in the housing and the location of the container to one or more remote facilities. The communication system may be arranged on the housing itself, which is especially applicable when the housing is movable, for example, such as the housing of a Frac tank. The location and condition of the material in the container can thus be known at all times.

Remote monitoring of material storage containers

System and method for conveying data between vehicles includes a data generating system arranged on a first vehicle to obtain or generate information about the first vehicle or conditions around the first vehicle, a first communications system arranged on the first vehicle and coupled to the data generating system for communicating with a wireless Internet service provider (ISP) and a second communications system arranged on a second vehicle and communicating with an ISP. The first communications system enables the information obtained or generated by the data generating system to be transmitted via the Internet to the second communications system. The first and second communications systems can communicate with the same ISP or different ISPs linked to one another.

Intra-vehicle information conveyance system and method

Vehicle includes a structure defining an interior space for containing or designed to contain one or more objects, and an arrangement mounted on, joined or coupled to the structure for determining whether an object is present in the interior space, or the presence of multiple objects. One arrangement includes at least one optical imaging device arranged to receive images of the interior space defined by the structure, and a processor coupled to the optical imaging device(s) and arranged to determine whether one or more objects are present in the interior space and when one or more objects are determined to be present, to obtain information about the object or objects. The processor is preferably arranged to distinguish between different objects and/or different arrangements of objects. A related method for obtaining information about objects in interior spaces of vehicles is also disclosed.
