Disclosed are systems and methods for cloud-based monitoring and control of physical environments. A system comprises a computing cloud with at least one processor configured to execute one or more application modules and a data analytics module for analyzing diagnostic and environmental metric data. The system further comprises a building server communicatively coupled with the computing cloud, at least one gateway communicatively coupled with the building server, and at least one system device communicatively coupled with the at least one gateway. The at least one system device generates environmental metric data for further analysis and display, and the data is communicated to the computing cloud by way of the at least one gateway and the at least one building server.

System and methods for cloud-based monitoring and control of physical environments

Disclosed are systems and methods for adjusting environmental conditions based on automatically and manually generated requests. A commissioned unit comprising at least one IP luminaire (), transmits a signal comprising one or more identification codes. The signal may be, for example, a coded light signal. An environment control device () receives the signal, detects user input indicating one or more preferred environmental conditions, and transmits an environment control request comprising the one or more preferred environmental conditions. An environment manager module () receives the environment control request, generates an environment control command using the control request, and transmits the environment control command to one or more commissioned units to alter environmental conditions in a space in accordance with the user input.

Systems and methods for managing environmental conditions

A method () and system () autonomously create a restore point for a luminaire controller () and restore it to proper operation when required. The luminaire controller operates by using first operating software having a first software image, and receives a second software image of second operating software. The luminaire controller communicates the first software image to a first device () connected to the luminaire controller via a communication network (), installs the second operating software, and performs a self test of the luminaire controller. If the luminaire controller fails the self test, the luminaire controller requests via the network that the first device transfer the first software image to the luminaire controller via the network, receives the first software image, installs the first operating software, and reverts to operation with the first operating software.

System and method of autonomous restore point creation and restoration for luminaire controllers

Remote controllers, positioning systems, and methods configured for the efficient assignment of addresses in a coded lighting positioning system are proposed. Particularly, a proposed remote controller comprises a receiver for receiving coded light from a light source in a coded lighting positioning system, where the coded light comprises an initial light source identifier of the light source. The remote controller also comprises a processing unit for assigning a modified light source identifier to the light source based on the received coded light, and a transmitter for transmitting the modified light source identifier to the light source. The modified light source identifier is a locally unique identifier used to provide positional information.

Efficient address assignment in coded lighting positioning systems

A lighting-control processor () for controlling operation of an external lighting unit comprises an exchange control unit, which is configured to control exchange of lighting-control information with the lighting unit via a lighting-control interface in accordance with an exchange protocol and to generate and provide exchange monitoring information indicative of an operational status of the exchange control unit. A reset unit is configured to receive a soft-reset command and to cause a soft reset of the lighting-control processor upon receiving the soft-reset command. An exchange watchdog unit is configured to receive the exchange monitoring information, determine validity of the exchange monitoring information in accordance with a predefined validity criterion, and to provide the soft-reset command upon detecting that the received exchange monitoring information is not valid.

A lighting system () for illuminating an environment and a method of starting the installation of a program on a programmable controller of a lighting module are provided. The lighting system () comprises a particular lighting module (), a neighboring lighting module () and an installation decision generator (). A portion of the environment is illuminated by both lighting modules (). Both lighting modules () have a programmable controller () and may receive a program via a network interface for installation on the programmable controller (). The installation decision generator () decides whether the installation of the program on the particular lighting module () may start, based on operational information as to whether the light emission capabilities of the neighboring lighting module () enable illumination of the portion of the environment to be sufficiently close to a desired illumination of the portion.

Lighting system for illuminating an environment and a method of starting an installation of a program on a programmable controller

Disclosed are systems and methods for adjusting environmental conditions within a physical structure comprising a plurality of linked commissioned units. One or more occupancy sensors (--) produce data indicating that a designated zone has transitioned from an unoccupied state to an occupied state. A first one or more luminaires (--) associated with a first one of the plurality of linked commissioned units (D), produces a background level of illumination within a predetermined reaction period following the production of the sensor data. The first one of the plurality of linked commissioned units transmits data indicative of the state change of the designated zone, and at least a second one of the plurality of linked commissioned units receives the data indicative of the state change, and causes at least a second one or more luminaires to alter illumination.

A network of active sensors in a control system is considered. The active sensors, which may be fixed-infrastructure sensors, provide presence detection information to a distributed lighting system. The active sensors communicate by transmitting probe signals. The communication of probe signals may result in cross-interference which may vary in time. Cross-interference is detected, and can later be avoided, by determining a difference between signals received in a first part of a timeslot and signals received in a second part of the timeslot. In order to do so probe signals comprising two non-zero pulses are transmitted in respective parts of the timeslot. Applications are, for example, active presence sensors in lighting control applications in indoor as well as outdoor environments.

Control of lighting devices

Coded light has been proposed to enable advanced control of light sources and transmit information using light sources. It is based on invisibly embedding of data and identifiers in their light output. Methods, devices and systems configured to efficient assignment of addresses in a coded lighting system, still allowing for unique identification, are proposed. More specifically, the assignment of addresses occurs in two phases, where in the initial phase wide area unique addresses are used, while in the second phase only local area unique addresses are used. Also, methods, devices and systems configured to efficiently distribute a set of addresses over a set of light sources in this second phase, to maximize the performance of the illumination contribution estimation, and positioning, are disclosed.

A method for dimming an illumination system () capable of emitting light (L) with a variable color is described. The illumination system () comprises three dimmable light sources () generating respective lights (L, L, L) having respective, mutually different colors (C, C, C). The method comprises the step of reducing the light intensities (I, I, I) of the three dimmable light sources () while maintaining the color point until one of said light sources () reaches a lower dim limit (I)&#x2014;The method further comprises the step of maintaining the light intensity (I) of said one light source () at its lower dim limit (I) and reducing the light intensities (I, I) of the two other dimmable light sources () in such a manner that the hue is maintained.
